        First Over Night

        RV Journal
Got back today from our first night out in the “Jan Van” as Roberta has dubbed the motor home.

We went down the road to the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort. We had a pull through. It was nice. We met two different families. One was retired and they had been driving for 10 months and were from Oregon. They were in town for their granddaughters high school graduation. We talked for about a half hour.

We met another family that had a group four kids. They had a new RV slightly larger than ours. I am not sure how they all fit in there. The kids loved the dogs. They sat with us for about half hour. This morning the father came to me and talked about pulling cars with an RV. He thought we had been doing this for some time.

We cooked steak last night for dinner along with bread toasted on the grill. We microwaved the veggies.

Yesterday we drove around a little and ended up at the Bass Pro Shop and they were having a BBQ ribs contest. We had a couple of good ones and a couple of not so good.

Now for the one big mistake. I did not take the stopper off of the pooper emptier. I turned on the macerater and after about 30 seconds it separated the hose and the funnel. Poop water went all over for a second. I won't make that mistake again.

When we got home we cleaned it out and then I filled it with gas before I parked it at the storage unit.

I am looking to make a reservation to stay in search light in a couple of weeks.

Oh, we left the dog food and our dirty clothes in it. Guess we will get them out in a couple of weeks.

We left Barstow, California 8:22 am and arrive Las Vegas 11:00 am traveling 140 for day. On our way across Route 58 we found a fruit company that was packing oranges for shipment. They also had a retail shop that sold local fruits and nuts that you could buy. We loaded up on some fruit to take to Vegas.

First disrupted night's sleep of the holiday. We could not get the temperature right; either the aircon was on and kids got cold in the main cabin, or, we just had the fan on and the adults were left roasting in the aft bedroom. Despite that we were all up, showered, water packed, comfy shoes on, and waiting in the park lobby for a taxi at 8.30am …

If it wasn't enough to walk around the Grand Canyon and be mesmerised by its beauty and sheer "awesomeness", a helicopter trip over it brings a whole new perspective and level of enjoyment that will live long in the memory for all of us.

After the trepidation of the night before, and a few pre-flight nerves, these quickly gave way to …

We're finally home. On Monday morning we had the AC fixed in Salt Lake and were on the road by 11am. Our goal was St. George, UT about a 5 hour drive. We made great time so we decided to shoot for Mesquite, NV across the border. Gassing up in Mesquite we thought, what the hell, lets go to Vegas. A long, 7 hour driving day. We spent the evening at …
