Day 19. Touring Yellowstone's North Loop

A travel blog entry by david-willett

... a right-hand drive country! I saluted him (expletive deleted) and motored on with heart pounding.

Later on after seeing many more bison, antelope and a hunting coyote in the Lamar Valley, I took a rough 8 mile dirt road up on top of the Blacktail Plateau. Few cars, great views, lots of antelope and felt like I was some kind of wilderness adventurer like in the movie "Long Way Round", but of course ...

Gurgle, Fill, Erupt, Drain, Repeat

... on about a 10 minute cycle of gurgle, fill, erupt, drain. It was about a 2.5 km down to Morning Glory but worth the walk. It was intensely blue, green and yellow.

We ate a picnic lunch then headed into the Old Faithful Inn. It's a stunning building built in 1903 and is designed like a huge log cabin. It has a massive four sided stone fire place in the centre of it. We bought more moose tracks ice cream and went up to ...

But in a couple seconds, the hot water shot 60 feet into the air, a show that was followed by the ooh's and aah's of the surrounding tourists. As this was happening, Livvy and I turned to see another geyser shooting up in the basin (later we found this geysers name was Castle). Next, we set off through a winding path ...

Yellowstone-Grand Teton NP-Jackson-Salt Lake City

... one on our side were we were sitting and another on the other side of where the piano player was playing, did I forget to mention that, yes it was a grand piano. I had crime brûlée, chocolate custard pot, macaroons for the first course and then second was macaroons, flan, lemon meringue pie. They also had cakes, gauteues and a continuous stream of beautiful wonderful things being brought out by the chefs. Anyway after photos and even better photos ...
