... is going to take us out on his dow, for a picnic tomorrow, He promises that it will definately have stopped raining by then! I think it involves catching the fish first
We visited Olivers favourite Lamu restaurant for lunch and sampled their milkshakes- mine was avocado- unusual but very good- but Oliver went with the bananas.
Lamu, Coast, Kenya crisp21... Did not get up to too much trouble that night....which brings us to the next day, and the next chapter. Chapter 5. Legalize It! So the next day we were content to not do a whole lot with our sunburned selves. Did we even go to the beach? I can't remember..... I do remember reading quite a bit... and napping, which ending up being a good thing as the party went well into the night. We started off at Peponi's after dinner for a few drinks.... And there was actually lots of people ...
Lamu, Kenya brisko... islands. It was a good 45 minute walk there, which in the heat meant it was often necessary to stop at a bar along the way for a soda. Sometimes it also meant getting a boat back, being such a relaxed place and all. The walk was very beautiful though; a gentle stroll along the seafront, looking at some of the impressive houses and donkeys and trees/plants on the way. Although a Muslim island, Lamu has its fair share of tourists and so I think the locals are ...
Lamu, Kenya rachaeltuckleyIf I can EVER get meself to an internet cafe with even a slight bit of a fast connetion, I will try and whip up some pics of this fantastical country! Well.. just got back from the island of Lamu. A UNESCO heritage site, this town is OLD and still is old. They have one vehicle on the whole island that is used (range rover), with donkeys doing EVERYTHING else from transporting cement to food to regular transportation. Everything is footpaths and it is right ...
Lamu, Kenya phlegmorphLamu 19th - 23rd December 2006 Tuesday 19th Jenn and I decided to 'take the day off' and recuperate from the two energy-sapping bus journeys we had endured. Kenyan roads are some of the worst in Africa. Asphalt (tar) roads are all well and good, but not when the axle-breaking potholes are big enough to swallow small domestic animals (like those goats who inevitably escape from their roadside verges in search of something green). The plan was to spend ...
Lamu, Kenya dcmThe bus from Malindi to Lamu was just as I remembered it - bumpy. The rumor that they had paved the road was obviously false. As soon as I arrived I spotted my friend, Karemi, who was waiting for a bus back down the coast to Mombasa. It took him a minute to remember me. I showed him our group photo from five years ago. He gave me a story for each member of the crew. For the most part, things were just as they were when I was here before. I was devastated to hear that Maina ...
Lamu, Kenya cpriccito round off our e african experience, we lounged and toured on the gorgeous little island of lamu, off the southeast coast of kenya. it's a fascinating mixture of arabic and e african culture, and we were lucky enough to be pampered at the outstanding peponi hotel, which brought back all sorts of fantasies of owning my own guesthouse in some far-flung corner of the globe (HA!). one of the most incredible ...
Island of Lamu, Kenya mimmikAgainst all the odds I made it to Kenya. The plan was to head up the coast as soon as I arrived. But my taxi driver refused and instead took me to a beach close to Mombassa. I forget the name of the beach but it was full of old European women and their young African 'boyfriends'. I met a Welsh chap who works for Glamorgan Cricket Club and his father, a ex Commomwelth Policeman. They had made friends with another Welsh couple who were swingers and had ...
Lamu, Kenya bensmart... Magazine. Paradise was the key word in all of the articles, so we thought that we would see just what that meant. Lamu is a small sand dune island on the north eastern coast of Kenya, very close to the equator. It means, no cars, no telephones, calm warm waters, miles of wide, white sand beaches, and fresh grilled seafood every day for under $8 each.....hakuna matata...no worries! Upon arrival at the little airstrip and grass shack they call a terminal we were greeted by ...
