... into the water about 15 metres away and everyone gasped again. It was weird to see a whole boat full of fully grown adults reduced to the age of ten by the sight of one of natures finest creatures, the hump back whale and it´s child. All of a sudden there was a crash to our right as the mighty creature breached the surface, swung round and fell back into the sea with an enormous splash. F***g wow! A truly amazing sight, and something I will never ...
Puerto López, Manabí, Ecuador alberto66... couldnt be bothered...!)... set off again, and stopped again, another bag search .... finally off again, and lights off so tried to doze off again... until we got stopped AGAIN, and had to get off, and show our passports again (not all of us again!??!!) they searched the bus AGAIN.... and then finally we were off.... Welcome to Ecuador!
We got to Guayaquil and were surprised at the Americanised bus terminal... had KFC for breakfast, as it ...
... much, more than we expected seeing. With about 3 humpbacks who put on quite the little show, and only about 10 metres from the boat! It was incredible seeing these massive mammals atheletically jumping out the water, or cruising along sideways, fins waving in the area. Turns out I have not missed my vocation in life as a nature photographer, I have attached some of the disappointing shots I took, but I´ll steal some of the good ones Lucy took ...
Puerto Lopez, Ecuador escapingthenhs... the first half of the ride being through very scrubby, dead looking landscape. We later discovered it's called 'dry forest', so it's not dead at all, it's just not flowering at the moment, we'd have to come back in January or February to see it all green!
The weather started off quite hot but by the time we got to Puerto Cayo it was overcast and beginning to rain and that's how it's been ever since. NOT what we had in mind at all, for our week's vacation!

... the dirt road into one big puddle of mud... We were hoping for some beach and whale watching but as the beach ust wasnt gonna happen we decided to do the whale watching that same afternoon and then move on in the morning to the next beach resort.
So We got on a mall boat with another German girl and 30 Ecuadorians (about 4 families with dogs, kids, everything...) and went about 30 ...
... hour. We went to the company they recommended and for $30 a head we booked our full-day boat ride which included snacks, lunch, water, snorkeling, and a hike around the Isla de Plata or Silver Island.
The whole reason we came to Puerto Lopez was to see the humpback whale migration. Each year humpbacks migrate through this region and sometimes can be seen doing some impressive acrobatics. The town sits in a National Park that sounds well-worth visiting, except we simply were ...
... day he literally fell down to his knees on the sand, threw his arms up to the sky and shouted "Nooooo!"); and Lauren, a cool Belgian guy in his mid-30s.
The only downside was that there was construction work going on because a new cabaña was being built. We were also aurally molsted on a daily basis by several birds, who I think lived over the other side of the small lake behind the cabañas (I say lake, it was more like a a stagnant green pool into which I suspect the town´s ...
... a humpback is sighted off the port side. We motor closer for a better look and see some dorsal fins, a tail fin, and a side fin before the whale swims off. Ok, I think, as we turn and head for the island, that was a whale, that's fair, if nothing phenomenal - but there was more. Approaching the island, we fin a trio of whales and manage to follow them for a goo 15 minutes. The back two mainly show their dorsal fins, but the front one puts on quite a show ...
Puerto Lopez, Ecuador kally563... about 75 pages missing, meaning that I´m unable to look up any words from "meek" to "slosh"... there are more than you think!) what was wrong with me. He invited me into his "consultation room", which was a dingy little place next door that we all stepped into through a narrow door. I sat down and he proceeded to take my information, a record of the drugs I was already taking, then had a look at my throat with the aid of a big light. He then wrote down ...
