We have spent the last 4 days in Houghton, Michigan. This area is known for copper mines and there are several that you can tour. We had to cross the Mackinaw Bridge to get here. When you are in a car going over a bridge, the railing is at eye level. When you are in a motorhome, you never see the railing! As we were approaching the bridge the warning sign was flashing for trucks and motorhomes. We could only go 20 ...

... boots that had arrived January 7th via mail while hospitalized, we set out on a 2 mile hike. Superior vistas, rocky trails, wildflowers and solitude greeted us with every winding step. Well, we've been in the Upper Peninsula, in a city called Houghton (Ho-ton) for the past three nights (including tonight). We arrived from Wausau on Thursday. The trip up was really pleasant. The scenery changed more than we expected it to, with farm fields all around for awhile, then pine forests, the rolling hills. Lot's of nice rivers and lakes.

We stopped for lunch in Eagle River, WI, a nice quaint city about half way to Houghton and ...

We finally had an 'all clear' day for crossing the Mackinac Bridge and took advantage of it. To maximize our time and hit places we had never visited before in the U.P., we decided to head straight for the Keewanau Peninsula. After a drive through Marquette we made it as far as Baraga before pulling over for the night. Along the drive we stopped for some geo-caches to stretch the legs and get ...

We enjoed the drive through the cities of Houghton and Hancock MI, both university towns, on our way along northeastern side of the river to the Maclean State Park where we spent the night. Once we set up, we went to see the town of Calumet, a former mining town, and then helped Rita & John hunt ...
