YELLOWSTONE ! Such an interesting place! Geysers and bubbling sulfur pots and canyons. Of course, Brady is most interested in the wild animals. We drove to Yellowstone in beautiful sunshine and enjoyed a picnic lunch sitting outside in the sun by the Yellowstone River, shortly after leaving Livingstone. Once we arrived at Mammoth Springs visitor centre, we found out that snow was forecast for the next couple of days, so we quickly decided to visit as much as we could during Wednesday afternoon. We spent one night at Logan State Park after leaving Glacier National Park. This was a lovely reserve next to a lake and just off the highway. The Kids enjoyed riding their bikes and playing horseshoes. There were quite a few fishermen out on the lake in their boats trawling. In the morning we woke to a flat tyre on the caravan. So we decided that we would drive into Yellowstone straight from Bozeman. (Hence the NO posting, internet dead zone) We saw lightning as we were approaching entrance gate. It looked cool, but we knew that we were going to hit some rain. We found a campground about 5 miles into the park called Mammoth Springs. It didn't rain too much that night but luckily we had already eaten and we pretty much just went straight to bed...

We left the site around 9.30 am and headed south, descending out of the forest into grassland dotted with ranches. A sizeable creature which had been steadily crossing the road, went bounding off into the grassland as we approached it. A coyote! We passed through several small towns and a lot of cyclists before arriving in Livingston around lunchtime. First stop was an auto spares shop to get something to plug the holes with to prevent any more water getting in and the onset of the dreaded ru...

The roads through Yellowstone form a rough figure of eight and so today we took the northern loop. As most people were seeming to go anti-clockwise, we went clockwise in an effort to avoid the crowds, at least until later on. Only a couple of hundred yards out of the camp-site we came to the Mammoth Hot Springs area visitor centre.
