... the night a fireworks display on the water. It was like nothing we had been to before. The atmosphere was really cool and everyone had a great time.
04/10/2009 - After a lie-in, we spent the morning by the pool chatting to some of the other guests staying at the resort, including a couple of blokes from England. In the afternoon we both went down to the pier (shortly followed by Fred) to try our luck at ...
... you, come on, nice price too!'. We politely declined and sped off - only in America!
We managed to navigate our way out of Miami and onto the famous 'South Dixie Highway' or US-1, which goes all the way to Key West, the southernmost tip of America. Once we reached the start of the Keys, the drive was gorgeous, with ocean views on either side. The southern stretch of US-1 is also known as the 'Overseas Highway' as it spans the ...
... as a peacock. We chill at the pool and get some laundry done. The village demographics tilt toward the aged - makes for interesting pool sightings. Late afternoon, post laundry, the ***** rain cloud reappears. I prepare to dart back to the RV during any break in the down pour. I pass on Potluck Dinner and Bingo night starting shortly at the clubhouse. Lots ...
Islamorada, Florida, United States tednims... park but not able to add any photos. Finished the day with a super meal overlooking the sea with a glorious sunset. However, one of our number did remark to the waiter that a couple of chips were uncooked (hoping for a discount). The chips were asparagus! Guess who.
Tavernier, Florida, United States white-travels... terrific and challenging with winds and tides to think about. The beauty and excellent weather never ended. We set up our screen tent which is like putting an addition on to our RV! I got out the strapping from Walmarts and re-strapped the chaise we had rescued from the dumpster months ago! Now it is part of the scene and one of the favorites! Off to Marathon's Curry Hammock State Park.
Long Key, Florida, United States jodieandandy... move to another pitch. As we were a little concerned that this may not be the idyllic break we had been looking forward to, we also checked if we could get a refund if we decide to check out tomorrow. It was a yes to that, but a no to moving as they assured they were fully booked for tonight. Back at the pitch, after careful manoeuvring, we managed to get the cable to reach ...
Long Key, Florida, United States thebusmonkeys... chart and saw that the area directly ahead showing 4' depth. We draw nearly 5' and could see about a 1' tidal rise so this was really an activity calling for faith in our friend Milt Baker's guidance. I was in high anxiety mode as we approached the red day mark guarding the entrance to the creek. Soon I saw the water depth drop from 9 to 7 to 6 feet and then as low as 5 1/2' as we continued to move ...
Long Key, Florida, United States gknopp... in the sun all day makes me tired - will turn in and read around 19:30 (dark before 19:00). Lots of boaters and campers here this weekend. Dipper is there but not until much later in evening (assume planet has to rotate). Finished second Clancy book (Patriot Games) and now moved on to science fiction junk (Neuromancer). Observation: Everyone down here lives in a fortress with gates and high fences. Day 26, Sunday February 11: Cloudy, windy and 70F. Bucky off to town and a ...
Flamingo, Florida, United States tombuttle... Drive and the festivities found along Lincoln Ave... I spent the first evening in allowing nature to takes its course, finally allowing my body to fight this flu thing, which was the best decision on my part. The next day I awoke fresh and ready to tackle what ever may come my way... First stop and a walk down South Beach & Ocean Drive... this is the main drag that runs parallel to the beach front and its here that the scene of who's what and what's who can be found ...
Miami, Florida, United States bc-travel... of mind and yet here were cars flying by them at 70 miles an hour. I entered the park via Florida State Road 9336 and immediately headed down to Flamingo at the very bottom of mainland Florida. You might see Flamingo marked on a map but it's not really a town. It's officially designated a wilderness outpost. It used to be a fishing village but the lack of fresh water, mosquitoes, and the increasingly less isolated nature of the village (once the road got ...
