... cross the road in front of us. Our first walk was around the Norris Geyser and later followed that with the Mud Volcano. Hayden Valley enabled us to see the Bison up close and personal and we were quite distracted with a number of unscheduled stops on this stretch of road. Ashley ran around town while Brad biked. I spent time trying to figure out a game plan for the week ahead. I have no reservations for anywhere else yet, but I know Brad wants to head to Mt. Rainier National Park. I want to spend the day in Seattle, and I want to stay a couple of days in the Port Angeles area. Right now, Salt Creek Park's reserved campground is full, but half of their sites are first come, first serve. I want to stay here because they have tide pools ...

... and a wolf (barely, with binoculars/camera). We visited a museum that we have stopped at before on the history of the park ranger. It was fairly small, but very interesting. The guy manning the museum today was a retired ranger who had worked at several NPS sites, including Katmai & Gates of the Arctic in Alaska. Despite the attempts of a few wind gusts to spoil our holiday he came back safely, and we walked along the South Rim past Artist Point (the rocks look like an artists palette) back to the crush at Uncle Toms Point and nearby carpark, catching amazing views of the Lower Falls cascading into the canyon. We were told that this is the second most photographed spot in the park behind Old Faithful, and it's in this area that Yellowstone got it's name.
