Well Worth the Trip

... Dam. We learned an important lesson about our GPS- the distance is "as a the crow flies" and what we thought would be 4 miles round trip ended up being almost 7 miles, which would have been fine except that is the furthest Lou had hiked on his new knee. He held up but was tired. Along the way we saw very “rustic” cabins tucked in the woods and bear scat.

We arrived just after a heavy rain storm, set up camp before dark and rushed off the the Brewery restaurant for supper before they stopped serving. Enjoyed two delicious beers with supper, a stout and then an amber red. Next day hiked to see the lower falls and then the upper falls which are the 2nd largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. The beautiful rust and golden colour is from all the iron.

... on the travel trailer... we tended to gravitate to their site for evening meals.

We hiked to the upper falls on Monday afternoon and the lower falls on Tues am before heading south to Wilderness State Park through the Hiawatha National Forest and over the Mackinaw Suspension Bridge... near Mackinaw City. Michigan has the "BEST" scenery yet!! A very pleasant state!!
