I stayed in a Cabin (with all the comforts of home - staff were fantastic, they booked my Star Gazing tour for later that night.) opposite lake Tekapo you have a fantastic view, and the hot pools / ice rink are just down the road (walking distance). And I wont lie the Lake was cold when I went for a swim (it was mid winter May - but it was on my bucket list, to swim in very very cold water.)
The camp site is also walking distance to town - had a few beers at the local pub, then fish n chips on the Lakes edge - watching the sun go down.

This holiday park is a good stopping location for those traveling from Christchurch to Queenstown. Lake Tekapo is a pristine lake and at night you can see more stars than anywhere else.

Not a fan of the unisex restroom/shower facility.

Just what we were looking for. Free showers, kitchen was a bit dodgy, though with some hotplates not working. Gorgeous views.

They charge $15 a person to pitch a tent and you have to pay for your showers! Nice view but the facilites are basic. They're located well between the hike and hot pools and town - so the location is convenient. I just think they are expensive for what you get.

This morning we walked along the lake side to see the famous Wanaka tree which is in the lake. I've seen so many photos of this tree it's unreal. It was beautiful. There were only 2 paddleboarders on the lake and the mountains were a fantastic backdrop. Awesome. On the bus again to get to Tekapo. We arrived and had to trek to our accommodation …

Travelling to NZ Southland?, there is one part of the country which is a must see and do (do not miss it out) this is the McKenzie Country Region, you will see Lake Tekapo, Twizel and New Zealand's tallest Mountain Mt Cook.

          Day 49: Mount Cook

On the Sunday we decided to head down to Queenstown via Mount Cook National Park. Mount Cook is the biggest peak in Australasia and again is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Before leaving Lake Tekapo we went and has a look at the tiny church on the shore of the Lake (Church of the Good Shepherd). This was very pretty and behind the pulpit w...

          Blown away

I spent a few days in Invercargill mainly because the Oceania Hockey Cup was on and I knew both of the umpires in the women's tournament, one from England and one from South Africa so it was a good chance to say hello, and hopefully see some decent hockey. Had it not been for the hockey it is not likely that I would have spent much time in Inver...
