Today, we decided to check out the original Santa Claus, IN based on a referral from a local resident. The original town was located a mile or so away from the current town center. The town's church was built in 1880 and a large statue of Santa Claus was commemorated in 1935 and faces east toward the birth place of Jesus. The original post office …

Drove 320 miles from Columbia, MO to Santa Claus, Indiana. As we were driving through St. Louis, we stopped at the Arch, which was right near the St. Louis Cardinals baseball stadium. Briefly visited the museum under the Arch, and then had lunch at Caleco's. Stayed at an adorable campground/RVpark called Lake Rudolph in Santa Claus, Indiana, which as you can guess, is a Christmas-themed park.

Mostly a travel day today ending in Owensboro, KY Lots of time in the car but with good company.... And an onboard DVD player the drive was a pleasant one. Tomorrow we get deeper into the South and our days get busier for awhile. Stay tuned for our update after we visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Johnny Cash museum and the Stones River National Battlefield.

Yesterday, we left Cahokia and drove to Santa Claus, IN. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

We selected the Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort as our new temporary home for the next few days. When we arrived, we were amazed at the huge check-in area (four long lanes dedicated to just checking in RVs and campers), and hundreds of golf carts waiting to be rented. We then learned why. The resort is located next door to Holiday World ...
