We spent new years eve at Ober Gatlinburg, We rode the tram up. Unfortunately it was very crowded and took us 2 1/2 hours in line to get on the tram. Was pretty ride up to the top of the mountain. ... for Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We had hoped to be able to make it in one go, but that was not to be. We had to overnight in the NW area of South Carolina and the following morning made the final road trek to Pigeon Forge.
We were very fortunate that Vera's boss offered us his wood lodge in Pigeon Forge. It was a very cozy 2 bedroom lodge with a fire place and Jacuzzi on the screened in terrace.
We met a couple here at the campground that we spent a good bit of time with. Randy and Frieda own a rental cabin wayyy up on top of a mountain called "kindred spirit". After we left The Preserve we decided it was too pretty a day, so we decided to slip back over to Cades Cove to search for the elusive bear. Once we started the loop there were a lot of deer out and about. About 10 minutes in Lori hollars "there's a bear, there's a bear". Back to our tour of Highlands. Grandpa drove us into one of gated exclusive areas, The Cullasaja Club. This development has less than 300 homes, a golf course and a gorgeous Clubhouse all nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. These homes are nothing short of amazing.
