A day in Kuressaare on Saaremaa island
A big sleep in this morning as we did't leave until 1000 for our tour of Kuessaare.. The hotel manager was our local guide who toured us around the highlights of this town working to become a resort town.. We went through the Kuressaare Fortress built in 14th century and best preserved in the baltics. It had one of the best museums of the all the castles and museums we have been to. The afternoon was spent exploring the town and checking out the beach but not much there ...
Off to the islands
... hits. On Muhu island we visited the outdoor Muhu Museum at Koguva a still inhabited fishing village first inhabited in the iron age. From here we took the causeway that links the island to the larger island of Saaremaa. Here we visited Kaali to see the meteorite crater. ... so we went inside to tour. It had been turned into a museum of Estonian history so that was pretty neat, too.
Our bikes had to be returned by 2 p.m.so we returned them and walked into town for lunch. It just so happened that there was a little Estonian folk festival going on that day so we go to see some traditional dancing and singing. They also had food at the markets so I had pumpkin soup and chanterelle mushroom bread rolls. YUM! ...
Kuressaare

The ferry ride is smooth and only takes about 30 minutes to cross from the mainland to the island. Once I reboarded the bus before the ferry reached the other side I noticed another backpacker had joined the bus. Upon reaching Kuressaare I talked with the other backpacker, a girl from Germany to find out if she knows any hostels in the town. She already had a booking (which was a little worrying for me) ...
