Who Knew the Night Sky could be so Amazing

Enjoyed our first hot brekkie today! Who knew I could miss bacon so much, but maybe thats a Canadian thing. First stop was the Airport in Alice Springs to say goodbye to Mardo, Sam, and Kelly. It's only been 6 days but it's so tough to say goodbye already. The bus radiator also decided to break down then... at least we were close to the city so we were okay, instead of an hour later where we are once again in the middle of no where. Only took 1/2 hour to get the new part and install it and we...

Kings Canyon

DAY 9 THU We left Ayers Rock surprisingly early considering the number of mornings we had risen at five thirty. We could have slept in but were anxious to reach Kings Canyon. It was raining gently, though the drizzle suddenly turned into a short-lived torrent. Margaret drove once again as I had woken with a bit of a headache which was probably a result of dehydration (qv). We stopped at several roadhouses along the way, most memorably Kings Creek Station, where we enjoyed what the owners accu...

Day 60. Kings Canyon, Northern Territory. 388km from Stuart's Well. We awoke this morning around 7.00am and went to say goodbye to Jim. We had set an alarm but it was actually Dinky howling that awoke us! We had intended calling into the cattle station, but having learnt the distance we were going to have to travel (there is an unsealed 4WD road that is much quicker but sadly we'd be going the long route) coupled with the fact that Azzy probably won't remember asking us round, we decided to p...

Days ??? - The Red Centre

First impressions of Alice Springs were mixed. Firstly it wasn't raining, which after the washout of Cairns was a huge bonus, and its got a nice little pedestrian parade and some ok shops that gave it an air of charm. However, the streets are full of Aborigines that smell to high heaven and are really abusive, so its not a nice place to walk around, and no way to be alone in at night. Still, I was only there two nights, both of which I spent in the safety of a pub (funnily enough) so it wasn'...

Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon

We took a 3 Day 4WD Safari from Alice Spings to Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. Despite the early starts it was a fantastic trip, camping out under the stars, sleeping in swags around the camp fire. The first day we drove from Alice to Uluru via a camel farm, a couple of roadhouses and a stop to collect firewood. At Uluru we walked 9k around the base before heading off to a lookout point to see the sunset over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. The camp ground near Ulura was not exactly in the middle ...

Outback Mike

"This trip will change your life no matter who you are". Drasko our tour guide After waking up at 5am, I decided to make my favorite breakfast of pancakes in a plastic bottle (just add water). I thought it was wise that a hearty breakfast was important before i headed into the outback. Now this outback tour, yes tour, involved travelling from Perth to Alice Springs via the desert road, covering a distance of over 4000km. Now you could embark this journey on your own or with mates but its advi...

Getting off the plane was very wierd - it was soo hot! A bit different to what the weather was like in Cairns! Our group on the trip were mainly girls, which was quite nice to have some girly company! Over the next 5 days we would work our way down to Adelaide. Our first stop was Kings Creek Station where we slept for the night. We had burritos for dinner then set up our swags to sleep in. At first we didnt really like them, did not like the thought of creepy crawlies getting into the swag! B...

"de de deedeee" "de de deedeee" (thats supposed to be an alarm clock!) and my eyes opened up at 5AM!!! OMG!! I hate the damn early starts!! I was out at the front of the hostel, blurry eyed waiting to be picked up to start the 6 hour bus journey to Uluru (Ayres Rock). The tour guide came out of the bus and shouted "Katie and Cliff" - we said "yup, that's us" - "stick your day bag in that trailer, "oh and cliff, your gonna love this trip as your the 4th guy and theres 10 ladies!!!" - wooooooho...

Working woman

... I do have to open up the station in the mornings, which means getting up at 5:30am, to be at work for 7am (its a half hour bike ride at least and I have to fanny about with make-up and stuff so I look decent enough for the public!). Other than that though its a great job, in a beautiful area, with friendly people, plus I get to do what I love best which is talk to people and wind up the oldies with a few jokes and bantering!<br>
