left sepilok for our river cruises, picking up new peeps along the way; first steve from BC, then ning from KL (who's also a final med at manchester!). we drove on back back roads to a boat dock and were picked up not before the driver had to scoop out some water from the inside. and finally: camp kinabatangan. checked in just in time for heaps of rain to fall. i mean heaps. waited. waited. got to our cabin (named slow loris) and prepared for the evening cruise. we would not be disappointed. ...

Monkey Magic

... outside of a zoo. The main action at the sanctuary as far as visitors are concerned is a wooden walkway leading through the jungle to a large decked viewing area, typically full of tourists at feeding times. The viewing area faces a platform where staff, laden with fruit, arrive overland and by ladder, while the main act arrives in considerably more style from the depths of the jungle via treetops and highly strung ropeways. Whilst the normal ...

... there it was packed but we found ourselves some room to get photos and waited. Even though there were more people than we'd have liked and the heat was cruel (who'd have guessed it could get so warm in a tropical rainforest?), it was brilliant. Five Orang-Utans came in for feeding and whether or not they intended it, entertained us with their antics. After watching then for about 30 minutes we made our way back up to the information room, read a bit about what they ...

The best accommodation in Borneo... FACT!

... If I ever had my own hostel I would love it too look like this place. I took so many photos of the place basically just to show people look at where we stayed and only for 6 pounds a night. The small number of staff where extremely helpful with heaps of courtesy and politeness to boot. There was only 7 other guests stayinng there it was like our secret little place. We all sat out in the open air communal area drinking Tiger beers and telling ...

oh look its a Logadile

05/07/09 Our guide Ben met us at 9am and took us to breakfast. He is quite the character. He is like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to the jungle and he is full of jokes and loves to sing but only knows about one verse of every song he sang and not the chorus. He brought us leech socks so when we went trekking we wouldn't pick up leeches. I didn't want leeches but Jessie did. I imaged these huge nasty slimy things stuck to my skin and don't think I would of handled it very ...

... were re-nested and finally we got the chance to see 43 hatchlings being released into the sea. It was amazing to share such intimate moments with one of natures most ancient creatures but also very funny to see the hatchlings racing down the beach quicker than Carl Davis going after a free Ginster's cornish pasty! Was up early again the next day for the boat trip back and then on to Sepilok Orang ...

Borneo Adventures part 1

... we've stayed are a bit dodgy - bed bugs came out of the walls to eat us at night. Today we caught a taxi (texsi in Malay) and it was like the venga bus - big subwoofers in the back and leopard print seat covers. The driver wants to find a girlfriend, so we're taking him clubbing tonight in Sandakan. The markets have some pretty wierd food ...
