The Jungle Retreat is a 35 acre resort at the edge of the national forest. It is surrounded by an electric fence to keep the migrating elephants off the property but don't worry, they harvest rainwater so they are "sustainable". Walking into this resort was like walking into a resort in the mountains of Montana. The only thing Indian about it were the workers who I saw being treated poorly by more than one Western visitor. I do admit, I enjoyed our stay here, but I am not going to walk around...

All the basic research and road route was analyzed and the plan was to start @ 5pm on 19th, but finally we started our trip on @ 5.30pm from Chennai late by 30 minutes (not bad). Fruits, Snacks and Music CD’s are loaded up in the car (Sreeni). Sreeni our NH driving specialist has headed towards Bangalore – Mysore – Bandipur – Mudhumalai. Rod’s wife Ruthie used an acronym, “TCK”, that I’d never heard and asked her to explain. “Third Culture Kid,” she ...

In Zambia these are called mbaulas and on a chilly night they are a treat. I paid 150 rupees for the burner, a quarter of what they go for in Bangalore, and I like it too much to actually use it.

But in Ooty the church stole the tour. We arrived at St. Stephen’s just as the guardian was locking the gates, but Joseph pleaded with the man in ...

Then in another home an older lady wanted to make us tea and for us to stay a while but we declined. She had a bigger home with 3 bigger rooms, many pots and pans..she was also a grandmother though, had lived there for 35 lives. Cruising along the back waters of Kerala

Just a quick entry to let all the family and friends know that we have now eventually uploaded our photo's so far. We have just returned to Allepey after 4 days of complete serenity and relaxation on a houseboat cruising the back waters of beautiful Kerala. We shared the boat with Sam and Nicole with whom we played many games of cards. We had 2 guys punting the boat called Pavthran and Saji and our cook for the 4 days was Thomas whom Liz in one dizzy moment ...
