This petrol station said they had fuel but the petrol station attendant said we must wait, this was an African wait. All of the locals came to visit, and talk about the bikes, i had to butter the petrol attendant up and tell her how nice she was, how good everyone was, and it was like magic. The pumps turned on and me and Dave had fuel.

... every time I walk around the campsite! Even this evening we had two 'small' eles in camp - the lady in the next camp was shouting "Shoo" at them - hee hee!! When I came out of the shower I came face to face with another ele - I don't know who was more surprised - and who jumped the most!! Today we spent the day in the park - how could two days be so different? Yesterday we saw an amazing amount of animals ...

... a small pool. After a nice cup of tea and coffee we exited the chalet and got quite a surprise. An elephant turned the corner of our chalet and we were face to face with a large female elephant. We quickly retreated into the chalet as we watched the elephant walk away. After our scare we wnet for breakfast, which was all quite delicious. When we went to check in we met the managers Jess and her husband, who were so kind and gracious hosts. In the afternoon we decided to go on ...

Serious animals!

... ask yourself "compared to what?" Compared to a Holiday Inn Hollidome at an exit off a major American Interstate where all the rooms smell like chlorine and the furnishings haven't been updated in 25 years... not really. Compared to sleeping on the street on a piece of cardboard... yes, it was EXTREME luxury. However, I will say that the tents were new, you could stand up in them, they actually had beds with mosquito nets (this is key), and they were lifted off the ...

... and warthogs. Also lots of amazing birds. The night drive was comical as we drove out for a lovely sunset and night drive but ended up completely washed out. The thunderstorm was directly above us and the vehicles we were in offered no protection from the pelting rain. We ended up in the pitch black, sitting in puddles of water and looking down to protect our faces from the driving rain.

My first Safari!!!

... my side was a family of elephants so we HAD to stop. I can't even tell you how excited I was to see this! They were so close and I wanted to stay to watch them longer but there was a car behind us. We drove about 50 metres when we saw on the other side of the car 3 giraffes. I couldn't believe that we hadn't even checked in and we had already seen 2 of the Big Five (Lion, Giraffe, Elephant, Rhino and Hippo)! As you may have guessed ...

... when turning a corner... wouldn't that be nice in Auckland, Wellington, Brisbane....... Nkwali is one of three RPS camps, the others being further North in the same park. Couldn't see much of the camp when we arrived but was shown to my "chalet" (horrid term) / hut by Emily, a young Englishwoman who is the camp caterer / hostess. The hut is made of thatch, roof and all, with the inside of the walls lined with some sort of plaster which is whitewashed / painted. It is totally open ...

The Christmas Safari of a Lifetime

... was so awesome to be in Zambia seeing all of this cool stuff in the wild. Just great. As night came, we stopped for a little rest near the HUGE Baobab Tree. When we got going again, it started to get dark out. We had our driver and a shiner, who had a big, powerful spotlight. We drove along and it felt like something out of a movie. Maybe like Jurassic Park, when you know something is going to happen, and you're just not sure ...
