Housekeeping Camp Yosemite National Park

The idea was to get up and away early this morning - well I suppose 9:30 is early for us! It is amazing how much 2 people can accumulate. We got ourselves sorted, checked out of Broadway Motel and headed for Yosemite. First challenge was to get out of San Francisco on the right motorway. We checked out of the Trop and drove down to the south end of the strip to get a photo with the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign'. After that if was back in the car with the air-con cranked up to the max and we headed towards Death Valley.

We stopped at Pahrump to get gas and then carried on to Shoshone in California (CA – State 19) where we got a Subway for breakfast/lunch. Then it was back on the road and into the wilderness for quite some time.

We left Yosemite today because there was a big forest fire and lots of smoke and they had closed one of the roads. We saw lots and lots of helicopters coming down to the river and sucking up water to put in the smoke were the fire was. It was very noisy and really really exciting.

I can't see the point in travelling unless you actually experience the places you stay, so this one should be AN EXPERIENCE.

We are booked for two nights at Housekeeping Camp, on the valley floor. The units have three concrete block walls, with the fourth wall a plastic curtain. Inside is a small double bed (oh jeez, the snoring!) and bunk beds. Outside, under a tent roof, is your own table and bench seats, and a firepit. It is basic!
