We left Seward and drove to the Homer Spit. On the way we stopped at an old Russian Church/Cemetary. The view (volcanoes) was phenomenal. At Homer, we camped on the spit. Drove along the big, turquoise-blue Kenai River from Cooper Landing, through Soldotna and onto Homer. Along the way we made two great stops, the first at The Moose is Loose bakery in Soldotna for homemade apple fritters. Yum! Picked up some of their signature cinnamon/apple bread for later. This day did not go as planned
I'm thinking this day is going to be hiking, then driving, more hiking and then more driving. It's about a 4 hour drive back to Homer but won't seem like it if we break it into shorter drives. Staying on The Spit!
Camped overnight on the spit for early departure tomorrow. Stopped in to The Salty Dog for a beer and then to Happy's (only place still open) for dinner. Literally on the beach on The Spit! Great views - a little windy, but what a view, and unlimited hot showers for a dollar!
Homer trip
