Autumn to winter in one train journey!

... were able to hop out for a few minutes here and there - otherwise the photos would be rubbish and all blurred! We saw lots of fjords as well - but these were early on in the trip, and the photos were all blurred.

Enjoy the pics, but it really is something you should see in your lifetime - I would so recommend this train journey - but in winter like this, so that you get the snow effect as well - awesome!

Don't Rock the Boat

Norway has been a beautiful country. It was so special because of the time with friends old and new and also the ancestral connection. We are glad we made the effort to travel so far north and have one last town to visit which is the 2nd largest city in Norway, the western port town of Bergen. Bergen is an old charming town along the ocean. There are some beautiful ships in the harbor along with cute shops lined up like a ...

Train again...to Voss (yes, the water company)

... of my college dorm! We arrived a bit late last night and ended up with the last 2 bunks in a 6 person bunk room. Our roommates were: a husband and wife from Sunnyvale, California (I know, small world, huh?), a girl we never met, and this other older guy who switched rooms with his buddy. We each have an open locker or cubbie hole to put our things in and we share a bathroom with ...

Iæm taking my bike on this train

... could tell why everyone goes there. There is a fantastic variety of activites from Sailings, to adventure sports, bike rentals, walking tours and the like. We chose to rent some mountain bikes and take the tourist train from Flam to Myrdal and then come back down the mountain on the bikes. Apparently the train that they booked us on did not accept bikes even though they told us that it did. So after a bunch of ...

Norway in a Nutshell

... ride to the station put us on the 8:11 train to Myrdal through beautiful although rainy countryside. Around noon the sun began peeking in and out. The train ride to Flam was filled with beautiful scenery and improving weather. The train from Flam is narrow gauge dating back to the 1920's. It decends through Flam valley to sea level and is described as a significant masterpiece of engineering for its day. By the time we boarded the Skagastol for the fjord cruise, the rain had ...

troll fjorden (this bird has flown)

... but all day due to transfers.) I hung out in Andalsnes next to a fjord for a bit then caught the bus south to Geiranger along the Trollstigvegen. It's a steep and windy road with lots of good scenery (though the clouds and rain hid some of it). On the bus I met a Brit, a couple Americans and a couple Chileans. The hostel in Geiranger turned out to be $40 per night for a freakin' cot on the floor, so the Chileans, one of the Americans and I got a ...
