Nice showers cleaned 2x a day with free blowdryers is a plus. Guy's have a shaving station in theirs I'm told. They have a laundromat and clean facilities. The camp ground is large but cramped in. Freezing in April! There is a good sized general store with lots of healthy options but it is expensive, as to be expected. You may get 3G by the visitor's center if you are lucky.

Very efficiently run with great care for details. Rangers are most helpful. From beginning to end, these are people have great knowledge and problem solving skills. When enforcing the rules, the degree of professionalism and politeness is second to none. Top management downward must be congratulated for a job truly well done.

While heating water this morning, using the new WalMart teakettle we have been using for
coffee every morning, I was surprised when out came a waterlogged leaflet giving instructions for the kettle’s use. You know how those are often rolled up in the kettle’s neck? Well apparently ours got pushed into the main cavity and I failed to …

Stepping outside into the quiet early morning desert, the freezing temperature is the only feature even faintly reminiscent of the Emerald Isle on this St Patrick's day. By 8 am the heat has already returned and a short drive up the road takes us to the impact site of several hundred thousand tons of iron and nickel some 50,000 years ago. Only in …

We headed for the Grand Canyon. Yavapai lodge.

Once we checked out ..we headed on the highway ...and stopped for breakfast along the way. It was going to be another hot day. We visited the Hoover dam and were in awe of its size. The place we stopped for brekky was the Last Stop - they even have a machine gun range.

On the road again it's time to see the Grand Canyon from the top. We checked in at the campsite then head to Mather Point for first view of the canyon. It was crowed and uninviting, a real change from view on the Colorado river looking up. After a short walk along the rim and a few photos we head back to camp for vino and dinner.
