... seeps away to reappear further down the valley. Further along the Grampian road I found a sign to Mt William and thought "what the hoo" and followed it. It was to be a slightly less painful repeat of the Mt Oberon experience. Drive to a car park – follow what looks like a short road to the top and an hour later finally turn the last of the switchbacks which take you to the top of this maddeningly rounded hill. Great ...
Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia doctormick... for me this week yet, just bad turf, trained a new rep today and I will actually be trial managing my own team starting on Monday! I’m excited for that, it’ll be a great opportunity, I think it’ll be fun, I will definitely gain more experience and skills and get paid a base again ;). Now tomorrow I just gotta smash it out there on turf and then the weekend’s comin’ up so I’m definitely pumped! I hope I ...
Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia inkaluhrs... to note for next time we consider buying beeswax candles.
I was sad to leave Beechworth but we were finally driving towards the part of the day I'd been looking forward to most - Erin had told me about his previous trips to a town called Milawa which was on our way home. Not only do they have a cheese factory, but also a mustard farm, and BOTH of them offer tastings! Milawa turned out to be a tiny town of only two ...
Today was a travelling day, from Kiama to Benella, about 650km altogether. Weather was cool but no rain and the ride was quite scenic but not too challenging.
Took off into the back roads on entering Victoria and went thru Beechworth and some of the foothill highways still heading towards Melbourne. Finally rejoined the main highway at Benella where I stopped for the night, only about 200km north of Melbourne now.
... organised churches (or perhaps only on a very rare occasion), yet I still feel an urge to go visiting churches on Sundays. It is not a religious obligation I feel, as I meet with God quite adequately in parks and forests and while having conversations with injured magpies, so perhaps it is only that I am longing for human company.
There must be somewhere else I can go to meet more sincere, more interested folks than the organised churches. Perhaps I should start hanging out in pubs...
Hi everyone, This blog will probably tire a few as we have been traveling around quiet a bit lately. We left Mt Buffalo and stopped at Milawa to sample some of the wines at Brown Brothers Winery in the comfort of air conditioning as the temp outside had reached 43 degrees. We were a little cheesed off at the range of ports they didn't have, but settled for some merlot instead. We then stopped off at the Milawa cheese factory to grab a platter for the evening meal, great ...
Glenrowan, Victoria, Australia serenitynow... I should be doing a bit more too or she'll be able to outwalk me! I am so eager to go that I have started an "Egypt Box" which is already stocked with some of the things that we will need to take along. I must have been a Boy Scout in a past life as "Always be Prepared" comes naturally to me! I am so impatient to go that I am doing this Blog way too early! Mum is a Country person and likes her personal space and doesn ...
Wangaratta, Australia shazlex... one bottle on top of all the tasting! Our bus returned to Wangaratta around 6, we went to dinner, and then I pretty much slept the rest of the night. Incredibly, I woke up on Monday without a headache. We checked out of the hotel Monday and drove to Bright, a town highly recommended and known as a foothills town for the ski areas. For me, the highlight of the day was not the town itself, but the scenery on the way there! We saw an actual cattle drive! Loved it ...
Rutherglen Wine Region, Australia aussiewilkinsSo with the keys to a sparkling Toyota Hi-Top campervan safely in my pocket, it was time to consult the maps. We were in Sydney, the van was due back in Melbourne in 13 days. Time to go bush. Ditching the more direct Sydney-Melbourne route along the coastal Pacific Highway, we headed inland, going instead for the much more dramatic and interesting Hume Highway. We'd originally planned to follow this route through Canberra, but after the umpteenth ozzie had looked at us like we were ...
The Snowy Mountains, Australia steveandmelly... expect the temperature to stay very warm (29+). When I tell them how cold it is in Toronto right now, the Australians all shudder. Yesterday, Lynne and I finally got away from Melbourne in late morning and headed up to Beechworth, an old mining town three hours northeast of Melbourne. My original plan was to spend the weekend on my own in Melbourne and then rent a car and head west, making a circuit through much of Victoria before returning for my flight home. However ...
