... got up at 4.50 am to see the sun rise over Kata Tjuita(the olgas). There are a second rock formation 45 kms from Uluru and are pretty spectacular! THe name means many heads and they compose of a number of rock domes, the highest of which is actually taller that Ayres Rock! We had breakfast there and then headed to walk the vally of the winds! It is a 7.5 km trek through the domes! It was pretty amazing as you got to walk between the domes and see some amazing scenery!<br ...

In 1992, my daughter and I took off for an extended tour around Europe. We were meeting my husband in various cities when he could take the time off work to meet us. This was our first big trip and we were not experience travelers. This was also a time when airlines allowed you to take more luggage with you so we each had a lot of clothes we were hauling around with us. And it was also when we didn't have a whole lot of money so ...

... a gorge below.

Further along Larapinta Trail is Ellery Creek Big Hole which is a permanent water hole and great place for swimming. Our last stop was Ormiston Gorge where the gorge curls around the enclosed Ormiston Pound. We made our way to Alice Springs and spent 2 nights here. Alice Springs is a very friendly, outback town with 20% Aboriginal population. We spoke to some locals who had been living there for over 20 years. They love their town, Alice.

Good fun.
Back in Alice we all washed off the red dust and sand and met up for food and drinks at the Rock Bar. Had Kangaroo for the first time and actually quite liked it.
Sleeping in a bed without being covered in red dust never felt so good than that night.

Flipped Off By a Wallabee

... My mom always told us fish and company stink after two days and man was she right. The scenery was just mile after mile after mile after mile of endless scrubby bush landscapes under the bluest, most pollution free sky I have ever seen. Two red kangaroos came bouncing by the track at one point and that right there made the whole trip worth it. I was hoping to see more but the train obviously spooks them.

Speaking of roos, I learned some ...

"Good" means both that the art is of high quality, is crafted by aboriginal artist, and that the gallery is managed to fairly compensate the aboriginal artists.

... message from Di telling us to try MacDonnell Range caravan park rather than the one she and the girls were booked in to. We had been told MacDonnell Range was the best and we weren't disappointed. We have a lovely site with a cement slab surrounded by grass and we are located directly next to the amenities block and one of the two playgrounds. The kids have loved it here with two playgrounds, two jumping pillows and three swimming pools at their disposal (yes - Lucy did ...

We spent 3 days in Litchfield and Kakadu national parks which were beautiful. I actually timed it really well with the weather as it was dry but not too humid.
