... making their nests (from september to march), you can go for the canoe tours at 6:30 am daily, the really fun bar set-up, the camping, the breath-taking scenery, the swim-able (non-trash-infested) water of the ocean, or the cute little mexican restaurant nextdoor.

before i came here, i thought that the place sounded like somewhere that i would want to go on vacation to when i was in the US, but because it didnt feature any special ghanaian sites i didn't have any ...

... nesting and sadly there is a long history of local poaching that goes on during their three month nesting season. I am sad to not be here during the nesting season of the turtles but glad to know there is community conservation work and education going on throughout this area to protect the turtles. The beach was lined with signs reminding locals to not poach the turtles.

I met a lot of other travelers while I was there most of them volunteers taking holiday from their ...

Some rather large waves (and a few bruises)

... The waves are huge and the biggest I had ever seen!!! I felt like I was 4 years old again going in the sea in Rhossily, some of the waves going about 1-2 meters above our heads!! Nats was a little aprehensive at first, and I was taking the mickey, but soon shut up, when one of the monsters came unexpectedly creeping behind me, and threw ...

Day 60 61 - Ghana - Lost Bikini Bottoms

... not pie dinner we voted to stay a second night so enjoyed another day sunbathing, watching goats roam on the sand between the palms, sorting through photos, getting blog up to date, eating, drinking cold beers, playing cards or Risk (some will seriously need to go into therapy after this trip) and of course spending hours and hours in the water. Rachel losing her bather bottoms whilst catching a wave. We gave up hope of ...

Big adventures and fighting boredom

... Takoradi to drop of my phone and try to find the only bank that has worked for me in Ghana. I did get some money out this time but had to leave my phone for the weekend with the repairman. He said the encoding was very difficult. I am a little stressed about leaving my Blackberry with them after they were all telling me how nice it was and asking what it was worth. However, they also all wanted to be my friend so it should be alight. Yesterday was awesome. It ...

... them into behaving for us next week on our trip to Kakum. We will have some of their teachers with us to keep them in line though so I'm sure it'll work out. On Tuesday we had to go into the village to get the shirt sizes of all 60 of the children in the club and manged to create some chaos in the process. The younger school children not in the club followed us from classroom to classroom at all three schools. They started tugging at the shirts I was holding ...

Another day in paradise

... also found two sets of tracks leading to a nest and then back to the ocean, showing that 2 olive ridleys successfully laid their nests last night in addition to the one spotted in the act. Our guide also pointed out two nests that are due to hatch any day now. How exciting! I will definitely join more night hikes if that is the case. Afterward we tallied the week's findings and it was a good week for nests. Then I had breakfast and did a bit of ...

... natural beauty surrounding me. Palm trees grow lush and thick along the fringes of the beach, and surround the bar and huts. The sand stretches for miles in either direction with no sign of human life on it, and the waves crash melodically all day and night. Near the shore there is a light, steadily blowing breeze to keep you contently cool and dry the sweat on your body when you return from a trip inland. It is paradise. We get ...

The Beach Paradise

... We then went swimming in the ocean. Imagine that - swimming at a beach. In Benin, the riptide is too dangerous to really swim, so all we ever do is get our legs a little wet. But at Busua, the waves were gentle and fun to swim with. Floating in the sea, bodysurfing the nice waves, and swimming all over was a lot of fun and we tried to do it as much as possible. For lunch we had this amazing pizza at a place called Black ...
