There is also an underground physics lab here which does experiments here. It was about detecting nuetrinos and meurons.

... br> We watched them getting fed by hand and learned a little bit about their habits and almost extinction due to bounties on their heads which were in place up until the 1950's. They looked like big dogs and the most interesting thing for me was the family tree that showed how many popular breeds of domestic dogs came into being, all of which originated with the wolf.

Not a bad way to spend a rainy day.

Minneapolis to Ely

Our destination being the town of Ely, which sits on the edge of an area called Boundary Waters, a series of lakes that are great for canoeing and spotting wildlife as well as serving as the border between the US and Canada.

It was in the high 50's when we arrived and raining, so no outdoor activities for us today. Headed off to the local steakhouse for some cow.

All and all, it was a great eye-opening experience for Glenn, Tara, and Dave. The weather held out nicely considering the record setting rain in the area just before. Carol planned nice meals and Karl provided the overall experience and fishing opportunities. It was a wonderful chance for us to see and do something unlike anything we've done before!

We caught TONS of giant smallmouth bass! The weather was decent, except for a couple of super windy days. We managed to avoid any bears or scary wildlife...just lots of chipmunks! As usual, the scenery was great. There's just something so cool about nature that's virtually untouched by man.
