Port Augusta was just an overnight stay for us and the BIG4 Holiday Park was OK for that purpose, particularly as the staff offered us a drive-thru site so we didn't have to unhitch. No doubt it would be suitable as a base for a few days if exploring the area. Certainly the pool looked inviting on the very hot day we arrived.

You park from alternating sides of the road so you end up looking at your neighbours car! Noisy road and even when the park isn't busy they pack you all in one area. Weird!

All was fine except that the parking areas were dirt, so if wet then it is muddy.

          Comfortable spot just through town

Friendly staff (2 very efficient and knowledgable women). Has all the facilities you could want. Service station next door. Located 1-2km from town centre (over the bridge). The hotel next door (about 300 metres walk) has very good food, although fairly pricey. Don't take the kids! It is possible to stumble over there in the dark, just watch out for the prickles in the grass if you decide to go cross-country!!

2 nights in Port Augusta....getting excited now as we begin 'our real adventure' and head for the Flinders Rangers and then The Oodnadatta Track

In Port Augusta we visited the Arid Gardens and enjoyed them so much. This was our first look at plants that can live and thrive in harsh conditions.....beautiful!

Today we covered some familiar ground, having travelled various alternative routes from Mildura to Port Augusta or vice versa on several previous trips. So the 535km drive was just a transit day with no planned sightseeing. We awoke before sunrise which allowed an early start on the long drive ahead of us and we left Mildura under a cloudless sky …

So today we travelled Berri to Port Augusta and yes we had a radio check again!!. Lunch was at Burra. Beautiful historic town that is heritage listed, so minimal refurbs are allowed. Met a local who offered us to stay at their property if we wanted to stay the night. Unfortunately we were moving on so were unable to take up the opportunity.
