Port Augusta was just an overnight stay for us and the BIG4 Holiday Park was OK for that purpose, particularly as the staff offered us a drive-thru site so we didn't have to unhitch. No doubt it would be suitable as a base for a few days if exploring the area. Certainly the pool looked inviting on the very hot day we arrived.

You park from alternating sides of the road so you end up looking at your neighbours car! Noisy road and even when the park isn't busy they pack you all in one area. Weird!

All was fine except that the parking areas were dirt, so if wet then it is muddy.

Friendly staff (2 very efficient and knowledgable women). Has all the facilities you could want. Service station next door. Located 1-2km from town centre (over the bridge). The hotel next door (about 300 metres walk) has very good food, although fairly pricey. Don't take the kids! It is possible to stumble over there in the dark, just watch out for the prickles in the grass if you decide to go cross-country!!

After an 8:00 am start we travelled through the South Australian Riverland town of Renmark and on to Berri for a coffee and Burra for lunch. Burra is very historic South Australian town but we did not have time to wander around, maybe that is something for another visit. Then it was off through the hills to Crystal Brook and on to Port Augusta …

Thought we would pull in here and have a few days off the road. We hit 38 and 39 degrees, but in the afternoon it was someone put the air conditioner on. Had a look around in town its quite a pretty town with trees up the middle of the street, providing some shade, very old homes and buildings. David and I went out to the arid botanical gardens, …
