... is going to take us out on his dow, for a picnic tomorrow, He promises that it will definately have stopped raining by then! I think it involves catching the fish first
We visited Olivers favourite Lamu restaurant for lunch and sampled their milkshakes- mine was avocado- unusual but very good- but Oliver went with the bananas.
Lamu, Coast, Kenya crisp21... job at all but it is incredible what the human body and mind can accomplish in order to survive! The ruins were really cool as well...I don't actually have much info on them at all.... But it is always interesting to walk among deserted crumbling buildings. I seem to remember Chris saying that they moved on because the water dried up.....maybe? More research is needed! So that was a good day.... We discovered another restaurant in the village called Star for many of our meals ...

Lamu, Kenya brisko... to quickly jump into a doorway when a gaggle (is that the right term?!) of donkeys came trotting past carrying things. One of our group told us that one morning he came across a group of local people watching two donkeys doing what animals do best, and suddenly understood where the phrase ‘hung like a donkey’ came from. Apparently the locals were doing their best to encourage the donkeys (verbally). We had a good in depth discussion too about why donkeys ...
Lamu, Kenya rachaeltuckley... could use one of those extra McDonalds from Dubai! Having learned all this over the few days, I'm not sure I understand why we still thought we'd be fine leaving our house at 3:10pm to catch a 4pm flight that requires a boat ride across the bay to the next island. Yes, Shannon had confirmed with the manager of the house that we'd be meeting the boat at exactly 3:10pm and they should be ready to wisk us off to the airport on the next island ...
Lamu, Kenya ayack... t recommend Yusuf more (do ask for him- everyone knows him- his boat is called hippo). when he takes you fishing, he will cook you the best fish lunch of your life- freshly bbq's on the boat, rubbed in a paste he knocks up in a pestle and mortar from lime, chilli, garlic, spices and served up with fresh salad and ciapatti bread- all on board as you sail gently across the sea with stunning views and the sun shining on your back- you ...
Lamu, Kenya rosysophie... viewed as a walking moneybag - which changes your perspective on things a bit. I mean, Kenya isn't half as bad as some areas in Vietnam or even other 3rd world countries, as they are not very persistent and are polite people - but if you weren't making more than $6000 a year and you see rich tourists that flash affluence without care, wouldn't you see dollar signs when white skin approaches? To touch on that point too, I haven't received any racism here ...
Lamu, Kenya phlegmorph... or more accurately, a moldy strip of Emmenthaler cheese that was melting in the sun! Inevitably, the **** hit the fan, and we were forced to stop in a little town called Garsen, to repair a burst tire. Garsen is a frontier town, filled with Somali refugees. Surrounding Garsen live hundreds of AK47-wielding bandits, notorious for ambushing vehicles and killing their occupants after stripping them of their belongings. I strolled around town with the aim of getting ...
Lamu, Kenya dcm... changed. They still spend most of the little money they make on palm wine. I reconnected with Ben and Karanja. I had a long walk to see James. He now sells art at Shela Beach. Ben and James have both married since I've been gone, and they both have step children. Ben also has a daughter of his own. They seem more settled than the others. Karanja was ill when I arrived. I gave him some neem leaf and moringa leaf powders. He was fine in a day. Also living in the house are ...
