... and was just what we needed after so many cities ad the camels were quality. Chris camel Charlie was exactly like Chris, he was really greedy as he wouldn't stop eating all day and wouldn't stop ******* either!! Lucky was great though and really friendly as Em wouldn't stop stroking him all the time, she has a new love for camels now!

All in all it was a brilliant experience, the highlight of India so far and we had a great time.
Thar Desert, Rājasthān, India chrisandem... Depsite this when it came time to sleep we were treated by a crystal clear blanket of stars to sleep under, it was amazing.

Waking up every now and then in the night when its just us and the stars and a few wild dogs sleeping near by its so quiet and all you can see are millions of galaxys/planets etc.. just incredible to see and worth the hassling from the boys and villagers in hindsight.

The next day we woke up at dawn and had some more toast and jam and ...
Jailsalmer, Rājasthān, India raeandadam... which really surprised us, particularly me as I hate spicy food and Indian food normally doesn’t agree with me at all. The Indian food back home is nothing compared to the food here though. The flavours are really good and the potatoes they cook are amazing. Wish we could do that at home! Who knows – we did a Thai cooking course, maybe we could do an Indian one too! We could give Jamie Oliver a run for his money yet!
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India edandali... The lobby is cooler...only about 90 degrees. The first disappointment is that we are told that there is no internet. OK, we can get past this, we go to our room, which is dowdy looking with a box air conditioner that has to be on full speed or stop and a bed that felt like something out of the Flintstones-strike 2. Since we had eaten our breakfast early and it was now nearly 3PM, we head to the restaurant for lunch. I ordered a chicken ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India juanitobosque... They helped direct me to the Fort Museum when we exited. The fort in Jaisalmer is the last operational fort in India and they have a great audio tour that explains the history and takes you through many of the rooms and compartments of the fort. It took about an hour or so to do and I was alone the entire time which was peaceful. One of the guards was really helpful while I was on the ramparts and he took a few pictures of me. After the tour, I went to see ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India meganmargureite... ll call him Thevelvetunderground for simplicities sake. He looks a little like and sounds exactly like Renier Wolfcastle from the Simpson's. Just so you get a visual idea of things. You could just look at the pictures but where is the fun in that? Anywhoo we were introduced to our camels as soon as we arrived at the desert which we reached by an hour long jeep ride. I was given Raju who seemed nice enough and wasn't prone to the spitting that apparently you ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India dantheeducator... desert on a camel. :) Can't wait. Until then, Jaisalmer is our home. ACTUAL from journal (Mar 12): The time is suddenly flying by. Woke up in Jaisalmer this morning and had our morning meal - chai not the best - before meeting our local guide and heading out to the fort right down the street from the hotel. Actually before that, a money change man came on moped to the lobby and gave the best rate for my travellers checks. 50 ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybar... but thought I might point it out to the guy who appeared to be in charge. He too wasnt fazed and said "mmm" and said he would take care of it.I thought of screaming "RAT" at the top of my voice and watched the hordes of tourists running for the escape exit-but sadly decided against it.-oh what a coward I am. My last night in Jaisalmer and it was a good one as far as I can remember-thats for tomorrow with many pics of Jodphur & Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer, India lordos... fort town. Jaisalmer is known as 'SUNAHARA NAGAR' - the golden city and it is a pillar and plain of peace and restfulness after Delhi. (The man in the internet shop helped me spell that, my first attempt had a lot more consonants) I quickly make friends with the houseboys as they lose my pants in the washing (luckily they turn up in Krista's room), ask me if I am from Brisbanesydneycanberramelbourneadelaide darwinperthhobart?, attempt to help me up the three flights of steep ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India ashleythomas... peeking out of a pile of laundry near our seats. I never saw it so think he was making it up!!! (fyi DK BIGGEST fear is rats) 1st impressions of Jodhpur...We love Jaisalmer we want to go back... Not liking it at all, not sure why but not liking it. Our hotel is ok though, manically decorated but ok. The owner is lovely like a mother hen and the son Lokesh is lovely. Too tired to think so we get to our room (which incidentally has a swing in it - im not sure why either) and sleep.
