    A reasonable overnight stop

Given that we had to stay overnight at the entrance to Denali Park, this was a reasonable overnight stop. The room was pretty basic though and on the cold side too. Breakfast was very simple - not really worth the additional $11 charge, but there was no place else to go. Charging for hot coffee seemed mean on a cold and frosty morning when there was no kettle in the room. The lunch box for the bus trip was not worth the additional $14 either.

    The Prey restaurant was OK.

Cabins with running water and electricity but not sure if heated well as it got cold at night. Comfortable. Has onsite restaurant. Also, has a lounge cabin area with board games, comfy old armchairs with moose and caribou antlers scattered around and two TVs.

It was a short drive from Fairbanks to the park. At first we thought about registering for a dry campsite right in the Park....what,...reservations in advance? So we opted to go to one north of the Park with full hook ups. It has great views from our rigs, so while limited wild life here...great views.

You can not drive into the Park. If you have a campsite, then you can take the rig, but only so far. Then no driving. Minimum stay is 3 nights...so we would ...

At the visitor center we took a look at the exhibits and watched an 18 minute movie about the park. It was mostly sights such as flowers, animals, mountains, etc. with not much talking and was very enjoyable. It also showed the rangers taking the dog sleds out in the snow, blazing a trail for others to follow as that is the number one sport here (dog sledding). After that we boarded a bus for a short ride ...

... they were hoping to do. What actually happened is that they hiked to the wooden bridge and then past the bridge a hill or two. As they were resting on top of the second hill some nice people from the United Kingdom stopped to chat. The gentleman said, "Look over on that hill across the river – I think it's a wolf or something." Everyone strains to see what the man is looking at. “Maybe it’s ...

... on this part of the trip which included more fun stuff like class III and IV rapids. Plus we got some oars to help the boat out and this time we had to wear helmets. We got the same guide and added 3 crazy Belgians and a couple from Brooklyn - so we had a really cool boat. On one of the other boats was a guy in his mid 80's that fought in WW II, Korea, & Vietnam. I hope I can do this at his age. This turned out to ...
