      A reasonable overnight stop

Given that we had to stay overnight at the entrance to Denali Park, this was a reasonable overnight stop. The room was pretty basic though and on the cold side too. Breakfast was very simple - not really worth the additional $11 charge, but there was no place else to go. Charging for hot coffee seemed mean on a cold and frosty morning when there was no kettle in the room. The lunch box for the bus trip was not worth the additional $14 either.

      The Prey restaurant was OK.

Cabins with running water and electricity but not sure if heated well as it got cold at night. Comfortable. Has onsite restaurant. Also, has a lounge cabin area with board games, comfy old armchairs with moose and caribou antlers scattered around and two TVs.

... on. We had stumbled upon the 49th state brewery. We bellied up to the bar and began tasting a few so we could bring back a couple of growlers. As we were sampling the brew I received a text from Nancy asking where are we? We were so taken by the brewery we came back to the campsite and decided to go there for dinner. The food was great and they served one of the biggest hamburgers I have seen. When we inquired about the burger the waiter said when your in Alaska you ...

... mentioned that the rooms were refurbished and were quite a surprise. If we didn't already pay for the two nights (non refundable) we would have passed this little jewel up. From the outside, it just looked like it screamed hee bee gee bee. One should be leary anytime you can park your car 3 feet from the front door.

We got to see all five of the major animals you can hope to see plus some extras. We saw three Dall Sheep, eight grizzly bears, five caribou, three wolves and one bull moose along with a fox, a golden eagle, two rabbits, a ground squirrel and some ptarmigans. The dall sheep and the moose ...

... tracks like a snake with a bright yellow and blue head. About halfway up the mountain they met a group coming down who had an encounter with a grizzly bear. Two young women were ahead of their group when they came upon a bear. They did the worst thing possible and ran from the bear. The bear chased them, but they were able to connect with their larger group before the bear caught up with them. The bigger group evidently discouraged the bear, and it did ...
