... named after a large rock opposite the bay (ironically called Morro Rock). This massive dacite rock (similar to granite) is a Volcanic Plug. The plugs form when lava hardens in a volcano vent, within an active volcano. The original volcano eroded away long ago and has left the harder plug exposed. After a restful night in Morro Bay, we hit the road again for an even bigger day, driving down to San Diego. We only did small stops ...

We had a nice relaxing day in Cambria today, nowhere to go, nothing to do.. Just chilled and wandered about! Was so nice to not have plans for a day :) We are staying at Cambria Pines Lodge, which I'm sure you can guess is set amongst pine trees in Cambria ;) We walked down to the village to have a walk around for a while, 257 steps down!!! ... miles and miles of grape vines and some other vegies and flowers and our first livestock for the trip. Enjoyable walk along the walkway fronting the ocean in front of our resort. But that was not to be, so we booked a tour for 9:45 the next morning so we would have to get up and go. We explored the gift shops and looked around so we wouldn't have to do that the next day, as after the tour, we had to head for Santa Barbara.

... from a wide spot in the road to a very popular stop. The property sports the Ragged Point Inn, Restaurant and Cafe, Gift Shop and Auto Fueling Station (gas is at least $1 more a gallon here). We love to lunch on their delectable offerings and stroll the beautiful gardens overlooking the ocean 500' below. Jil's favorite are the hot dogs offered at the cafe. It is split open lengthwise and grilled. No hot dog is prepared better than that!
