... a super rich magnate who owned a lot of land, over a few generations, the castle and grounds just kept growing and growing. The castle was just a bit expensive for us to pay the entry to, so we just drove up as far a we could to get a look. We did see Hearst's zebra herd as we were driving out. Classic case of man with too much money and not enough to do with it.

Stopping at most of the scenic and photo ...

After we left we were heading towards Avila Beach, but continued to drive through the Edna Valley so I could taste wine at the many wineries, but first we drove to the Tackle Warehouse (Dave was so excited) and he bought some giant lures. After that we went to Old Edna Town site which is in the center of the Edna Valley wine region and includes some restored ...

... a small tree, refusing to smolder. We share stories of journeys and celebrations, only pausing to throw more wood on the fire, and to light off a few fireworks. A few of the guys stand up to start taking some of the gear back up to their car in order to make it back down to the beach in time for the promise of a gorgeous sunset. I offer to help carry the nearly empty ice chest, knowing that the path I took wasn't that long or treacherous, so I figure it would be an ...
