Altagracia Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua, 505-8879302-
Ometepe Island means "between 2 hills". It is located in the central portion of Lake Nicaragua and the 2 hills refer to the 2 volcanoes on the island: Concepcion and Maderas. Concepcion is considered to be active. We took a ferry to get there...based on its appearance, we hoped it would make it the entire hour to get to the island! We made it. Once there, we boarded the bus with the plan to go to a beach area called Santo Domingo but changed our minds after meeting a fellow named Jeff from Se...
Ometepe Island, Nicaragua andersontraveloh, the adventures here too! this island had an volcano at each end -- and one was active!
isla de ometepe, Nicaragua bornfornowWe left Monteverde, Costa Rica bright and early (4:30 a.m.) on October 8th. We took a bus to the Pan American Highway that started out empty but was packed by the time we reached the first town. At the highway, we met a nice guy from Barbados that was living in Nicaragua and helped us figure out how to get to the border. We were going to catch a regular bus but it passed us by without stopping. So plan B... When the TicaBus (cross border bus) stopped to pick up the guy from Barbados, we asked...
Ometepe, Nicaragua clandybarHad some Special K and Banana this morning feeling very Australian and wanting someone to say "you used to look great in a mini". Stocked up on tampons and batteries, the most difficult items to come by then caught a chicken bus to San Jorge, Rivas. We caught a taxi 7km to the dock to catch a boat across Lago De Nicaragua to Moyogalpa dock to go further into the ecological jewel that is Isla De Ometepe. We are practicing our Spanish with everyone we meet now. Lago De Nicaragua is known by it'...
Isla De Ometepe, Charco Verde, Nicaragua inoursuitcaseWe got up just after sunrise for a walk around the reserve hoping to see more animal life. We were able to get close enough to some of the birds to get photos but only heard the howler monkeys in the distance. When we returned to our cabin we found a large family of howler monkeys were living in the tree very near our cabin. They were hiding in the leaves though - so no photos. Today we walked up to the main road to catch the bus to Altagracia. It's suppose to run once an hour and we must hav...
Ometepe Island, Ometepe Island, Nicaragua stlblew... a chance to see snakes & monkies - sadly the guide's idea of on the way meant a 2 hour+ jungle trek, then with the 40 minute walk to the waterfall path I was already tired. Then it was supposedly 3kms to the falls but having done 2 seriously uphill k's to a good viewpoint I could see there was significantly more than 1km to go, especially annoying as steep downhill first followed by sheer vertical to the falls. The guide had described the whole walk as easy - guess ...
Mérida, Rivas, Nicaragua ccchrissie... sat down and started to discuss the game plan. We were still relatively enthusiastic about doing the hike up the volcano and arranged for a guide to take us up the mountain the next day (meeting time 430am). However, as the day and then night went on and the millions of tiny little sand bugs came out after dark and after we were asked to leave the hotel bar at 9pm because they were shutting down we decided that we were going to leave Ometepe first thing in the ...
Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua kingnling... walking upright. I didnt know if I was going to be able to do it. The volcano suddenly looked a lot bigger and higher and the crater looked further away. I started talking aloud to Gordon. "Come on help your sister out here" I mumbled over and over again, grasping at rocks with my fingers, my legs aching from hauling up my body, sweat pouring down my body in rivulets. Alan was behind me, he slipped a bit but righted himself. I felt like I was climbing a massive mountain but ...
Moyogalpa, Rivas, Nicaragua mardow... affront to the senses when they blared the music at unbelievable volumes in the bar/restaurant/common area from about eight o'clock onwards every night. You could barely even speak to one another it was so loud, and the whole scene was just silly really, with Morgan and his Nicaraguan friend/worker/partner/whatever-he-was leppin around the bar to the thumping beats of the Prodigy while everyone else sipped quietly on their beers. Its amazing the difference one ...
Ometepe Island, Rivas, Nicaragua roryd... of it. The beach is gourges and good for running and the water is so calm and 80 so perfect for me to swim. I looked for a diving shop and found one but this town is full of surfers and I needed a partner which I couldn´t find. I thought I would stay here but decided to head south to go scuba diving in costa rica so off I go.
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua mikedolan... touristischer vorgestellt.
