just like a monkey

So I finally found a real computer and for not too much money I get to post a proper update. Probably in reverse order, so everybody gets up to speed.

So this morning, I took a canopy tour (i.e. ziplining). This was an absolute blast as they had like 14 different zips that went over the jungle, some really, really high. The longest one was a full kilometer long!!! They also had a rappel and a tarzan swing. The swing was ...

... can be arranged and as it is our last week we decided to get the blood pumping and do something exciting. We signed up for a canopy tour, which takes you high above the trees, in some cases up to 180m above the ground. There are 13 zip lines, the longest of which is 1km and you can get up to speeds of 60km/hr. They also have a 30m ...

Alajuela

Yes Alajuela I'm leaving CR tomorrow! 3 weeks last visit, 3 days this time!! I hopped on a bus to San Jose today. Nobody told me about the earthquake!! Absolutely no room at any of the inns whatsoever. I was rescued by a taxi driver who rang round and confirmed there were no beds in SJ and found me a place in Alajuela for $35 - absolute extortion, as was the cab fare here but I couldn't get a bus because I didn't know which hotel. At least it's close to the bus ...

... the tours that we´d like to take. There is very little public transportation so we´re a bit limited on how we get to see things. (*) editor´s note: we wanted to use the word "road" here at first but the Oxford English Dictionary got in touch. They felt that glorifying those kidney-bruising, serpentine goat paths with the label of "road" was taking extreme liberties with the language.

... tipico ticismo, typical Costa Rican food. So, more rice and beans, steamed squash, carrots and cauliflower, a salad I dressed with Lizano sauce, and some cheese and avocado I covered with hot sauce. Some of the other girls were getting sick of Costa Rican food; about half of them ordered spaghetti with marinara. I also ordered a Morpho's Sunset, a cocktail made with Cristalo, a rum made from sugarcane, and a few other liquors including, I think, Midori ...

Monteverde- it never rains but...

... the guide books. Our stay in Monteverde turned out to be a washout, even by cloud forest standards! We were to find out that a tropical storm had hit Nicaragua, and the tail end of it was travelling up through Costa Rica causing torrential rain. Undeterred we spent our first day in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, where we spent a really enjoyable- if very wet- 2 hours traipsing through the woods. Unfortunately we weren´t able to see that much wildlife due to ...

Tortuguero to La Fortuna

Hola amigos! We arrived here in La Fortuna, under the shadow of Volcan Arenal, after a long day of travel yesterday and a further hour and a half this morning. Straight after our last post from Tortuguero we enjoyed a meal of hearts of palm lasagne, which was delicious. I haven't eaten in a restaurant before while a dog slept on the floor next to me! The only weak point was the local beer, simply called Pilsen (maybe from some ...

Back to my studies.

I'm back to school and have already gotten into trouble with the teacher for not doing my homework! Yes. My age caught up to me. I crashed at seven last night shortly after we arrived. The school is absolutely beautiful. It's very feng shui and yet very Costa Rican. It's filled with colourful murals and paintings, fountains and open spaces. It's actually ...

... line and got in trouble rigtht away cause I was standing on the line not to be crossed. I was excused thank goodness, my bag was searched and I made it back on the bus. woo hoo. Everyone was chatty back in the bus and it seems we were all feeling similar. Anxiety always makes people bond. No language, age or cultural difference sets you apart from feeling vulnerable in the border crossing. After a few more hours we stopped for lunch at a typical soda stop where I had beans and ...
