The open sewers (not everywhere thankfully but enough of them!) and thus the smells
The toilets
The roads and traffic. There appears to be NO lane discipline. As far as we can tell, the driver has to be very careful not to hit anyone from behind. That seems to be the only rule of the road. Wagons without rear lights also make driving at night hazardous
The railways - only because of the toilet facilities....

Ok, so this is my first pre-departure entry before I jet set off to volunteer in West Africa, to the home of mosquitos, goats and tro-tros. Wow!! Just 15 days until I pass my luggage to Heathrow staff for it never to be seen again! Arghhh, this is one of my many fears!

We got lucky with the bird because there were several birders already at the site from which it had been reported at and we got onto it almost immediately, which after 15 minutes of strenuous walking was something of a relief. It flew off over the bank that we were on and seemed to loop back around us and we quickly relocated it further back towards the car park, which was better than walking the other way because the wind was mainly behind us.
