Shhhhh. Can you hear that? Listen... it's the sound of silence. Wait -- there's some laughter. Tree leaves clapping together, egged on by the wind. A fly buzzing by. Kiddos playing a game of tag up and down the rolling terrain.

Nary a ping or blip or bleep in the air. All natural noises.

Including this conversations, of which I only heard one side, that of what I'm guessing was Mom:

"We're on a mountain. You can run around. Climb hills. Climb ...

We pulled into a very small six spot park and picked out our spot next to a babbling creek that was nestled up to the Pisgua National Forest.  It was a beautiful, peaceful spot. ... twas a great success.

The riders then had to ascend up 64 W and then the dreaded Slick Rock Rd. (Elevation gain chart included in pics.) Last year's group had an equal elevation to climb but their destination was Asheville, not Hendersonville. A cat 2 climb 2nd week into the trip - bonafide heroes were made on this day.

The reason we were in Hendo this year was because of my personal connection with Housing Assistance ...

... that followed the tour I could see that Teenager had kind of mentally checked out. I was pleasantly surprised when we got in the car that she said she would be interested in Davidson...(I loved it)... Smile and Nod.


Friday 4:30...off to spend the weekend with family in Hendersonville, NC...past Cracker Barrels, antique warehouses, clothing outlets and up into the mountains. Let’s hope that it’s at least cooler up ...
