Couldn't get back home fast enough
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-06-30
We went to Camping Du Pylone (Camping Du Pile Of we renamed it!). Myself, husband and 3 year old son in a mobile home through French Life. Perhaps we had been spoilt by the Spanish hospitality to tourists and children but we found our 15 night holiday almost intolerable.
The "cottage style mobile home" was very small and very basic, not spotless and hired sheets were vile (very old, not matching, repaired holes).
The shop on site is OK but the French staff unbelievabley rude (no eye contact or acknowledgement and serving whilst on the phone). One fellow holiday maker even siad whilst waiting in the queue "If you worked for me I would sack you!" Of course she did not understand nor hear as she was too busy talking on the phone but there was a kind of Dunkirk spirit in the queue by his remark.
The location of Camping Du Pylone is ok as Gare Biot train station is at the top of the road which gives easy access to the Riviera.
The onsite pool is also OK although heavily regulated by what seems to be an endless list "No tshirts in the pool, No splashing, No shoes, No inflatables, No pissing in the pool (yes that is what is says), No running, No etc etc etc".
For 3 year olds the facilities are very very poor. In the bar area at night there are no facilities for children apart from video games. During the day also there is no communal play area.
On the whole we felt that a site the size of Pylone (it's massive) which is obviously making masses of money should reinvest in itself and tidy the place up.
We met some very nice English people, some hated it like us and some loved it.
No pork pies here

this will be the 3rd year running we have been to the site and can honestly say for the money, location it is the best site in france. positves the location dont need a car. train will take you to nice, monaco, italy 1 way, antibes, jaun les pins, cannes the other. at 4 euros 40 the beer in the bar isnt the best i have drunk but it is drinkable try the wine cheaper and very good (pay a couple of euros more even better. the restauraunt is excellent value cmon 3 courses 14 euros ,the pizzeria is even better and i am half italian no thick crust here with baked beans and tikka toppings authentic italian pizzas thin as a board bellisimmo. ok the pool can get a bit busy in aug even with the 2 euro entrance fee but you are 4oo meters from the beach where you can get the best burgers you will ever taste from the beach bar there. the bakery on site is great with the cutest little pair of french sisters working there who always have a smile and cakes to die for. negetives, front of gate can be a bit abrupt esp if you dont speak french, should always have the band blah, blah outside (should have added these to the positives they are really good if you are down there and they are there go and see em), stoney beach just catch the to jaun les pins or cannes. all in all the place just makes you return all the time. 1 last negative they dont sell pork pies in the shop on site.
A Mobile home owner's perspective

I am an owner of a mobie home on du Pylone and view the previous entry as being inaccurate and misleading.
The site is a 3 star site and the French camping authorities do not allow standards to slip.
The site includes an large and excellent swimming pool complex that is being improved and is almost complete. The clubhouse offers live entertainment nightly and therefore the area surrounding the club is noisy but this relates to a small proportion of the pitches. The club restaurant is excellent with three course meals availale for either 14 euros or 17 euros. the beer is less expensive than normal French bars and costs 4 euros for a half litre (nearly a pint). The shop is well stocked and is you say bonjour, si vous plait (please) and mreci (thank-you) you will receive equally polite responses. However, British people can appear rude and often do not use what in France is the obligitary pleasantries. The on-site bakery is also excellent with particularly pleasnt staff.
We do not use the wash facilities but they do not look dirty and are cleaned regularly.
The site itself is large but only a small percentage of the pitches are for camping or touring vans. the river on the site perimeter makes the site interesting and the playing field has both a full sized football pitch and a 5 a-side pitch.
The site is very well located 200 yards from the Biot railway station and bus routes and the nearest beach is pebbly (as are all the beacghes from Monaco to Antibes) but there are sandy beaches in Antibes and Juan les Pins.
Keep going back again and again and again

I have been going to Le Pylone on and off for the past 20 years with friends, and with my husband for the past 16 (having spent a budget honeymoon there in 1988!). I have read all previous reviews and, while I agree that some parts of the site could be spruced up, I have also stayed in a couple of 5 star hotels which were not quite what I would have wished either. Remember, it's a self-catering camping holiday and Le Pylone provides all you could wish for, both on site and off. The adventure golf just a street away is absolutely amazing and we invariably spend at least 2 mornings there! While on holiday I refuse to self cater and we are more than happy to eat in the restaurant every night. The meals are good and not particularly pricey (though it might be an expensive proposition for a faimly). The bar prices are dear but then they don't get too much cheaper outside the site and, after all, you're on holiday. The showers are not as clean as my bathroom at home but then I am not usually wishing to linger very long in them and we have never found the toilets to be unclean (and I think over the years we've used just about all of them!) other than when a few campers with some unpleasant toilet habits have used them.
We have never had any problems with the staff (more, in fact, with some fellow campers), but then we've never gone in with all guns blazing and have always been prepared to listen to their comments.
We're off again in a week's time for our 2004 visit and are looking forward again to spending a couple of weeks at this brilliant campsite.
Young Families paradise
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-05-08
My family and I have stayed at Camping du Pylone for the past five years. We have three small children aged 4-5 years. The site is family run and it is this that keeps the prices so low all season long, try getting a three bedroomed caravan in Cornwall for £175 a week during whitsun !! The facilities are ample and you do not need a car as the railway runs along the coast, two minutes walk from the site. Juan du Pins, two stops away offers a beautiful sandy beach. The jewel of France, really is at your fingertips...
Prices are very reasonable. We camp in Western France during the summer months and have found the South to be far more reasonably priced !!The campsite is clean and offers a good shop and takeaway facility for food. The vans can be privately rented or you can camp. You really cannot go wrong.
A French paradise

On arriving at nice airport we were met by a camp rep who had been coming to camp du pylone for twenty years which we thought was a good start. We found the camp to be in a great spot close to all you need i.e. beach, fair, waterpark. Entertainment was great for all ages, kids cant wait to go back in 2004! recommend it to any famliy!
What a relief
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-01-21
After a gruelling 24hr car journey we arrived at a family run camp site in the South of France. The curly haired gentleman in the shiny blue shorts who greeted us didn't look happy to see the arrival of 4 young men in the prime of their lives looking for adventure. Needless to say 24 hrs later, after smuggling supermarket lagers into the campsite disco, both parties decided it would be for the best if we moved on. At which point we located Camping du Pylone. Hallelujah.
After committing ourselves to 13 nights we were eventually shown to a plot. We pitched our tent next to a couple of attractive Italian girls who were making coffee over a camp fire, this was something new to us.
That evening we went to the camp site bar only to find that their was a beauty concert going on. We couldn't believe our luck. They also sold pizzas.
The beauty of camp du pylone in reality
from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-12-05
On arrival at the airport, we were greeted and collected hospitably by the local people that reside at Camp Du Pylone. Also on arrival at the campsite one is personally greeted by the owners which is becoming such a graceful rarity these days. Our accomodation exceeded our expectations, appropriate for our chosen holiday. The camp site, exceeded, providing only neccessary commodities, as it has it's own fully supervised large swimming pool, coupled with a smaller childs paddling pool, together with: it's own Patisserie that provides fresh bakeries, Supermarket that provide one with all ones needs, gift shop for sourveniers, magazines and daily papers, excellent take away pizzeria, an on site restaurant that excells in both al le carte menu accompanied with an extensive take away menu. The Bar area additionally provides, an amusement arcade, American Pool and later in the evening a disco with open bar. In mid season the Bar area also provides a variety of popular excellent entertainment, catering for all age groups. On site also is playiny area for the little ones also (should I say it, as this is a camping luxury)a lauderette with ping pong ball tables and seating area devoured by vines of the South. My husband and I have children aged 17, 15, 8 and 5, we have all felt catered for with the added bonus of romance for some! On all of our departures we have always been left wanting to return and do so , often. Immediatly outside the camp site is Antibesland, Marineland, Golf Island, Aqua slide park and many many more tourist attractions that more then contribute to a varied and exciting holiday that all family members will remember with great passion. As for outside Camp Du Pylone, Biot, I do not know were to begin, it is the creme de le creme of the South of France, as it is situatated in the heart of Cote'Du'Azure with a long line of pebble beach, bars, restaurants, especially world famous nite club, restaurant and casino, 'La Siesta' , also with it's nostalgia medieval village which holds it's own stunning beauty with it's own right. Biot also neighbours it's own railway station line that can transport, from one end of the South of France to the other, just name the destination and it is more than possible at a very modest cost, here in Biot. P.S. Don't forget your camera
Backpackers beware- and don't be fooled by this place

Although we intended to stop 8 nights camping here we left after 3. In short, the showers in the evening were cold, not all locked and not all of the toilet doors locked. The stench coming from the men's urinals could be smelled from the women's toilets, which were often dirty. We were told it was cleaned twice a day which may not seem too bad, but consider there are over 1000 pitches at the campsite... It would be advisable to bring your own plug as the sinks did not have them and few of the taps worked. Likewise, the sinks designated for clothes washing were dirty and leaked, again, in some there was no water when the tap was switched on. However, the washing machines were broken, along with the drinks machine (don't expect a refund) and games facilities. We found the campsite to be noisy at night (July) with a very lively bar and many teenagers walking round with alcohol - Heineken is available from a drinks machine. If Ibiza and Benidorm style ambiances are your thing, Pylone just may suit you, but we felt it lacked any kind of French culture. We found the staff in the shop to be rude and at the end of our stay, decided to issue a complaint at the office. The manager denied our claims that facilities did not work, despite us showing him, and instead walked off. The English office worker and French owner then became very hostile, shouting at us, not listening to our concerns in any way, and admitted that complaints are not recorded or taken seriously. They began doing insulting impersonations of us, told us we were 'young people with no education' before finally telling us to 'p**s off' or they would call the police. If you're in a caravan it's doubtful that you will experience some of the problems described here, but we were extremely shocked at the childish and unprofessional way we were treated when trying to make a complaint. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this campsite- there is a better and less expensive one down the road!
AN UNUSUAL PLACE
from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-07-28
When we arrived at the campsite we were disappointed as the area looked
very run down and the coast line was busy and very built up. The stoney
beach is next to a very busy main road and a railway line. The campsite
could do with some renovation in some areas especially the so called
games area which had broken pool and ping pong tables which could not
have been used for years. Luckily our accomadation was of a good
standard and we had our own private bathroom etc, which was just as
well as the shared facilities were old and dingy. The shops on site
were ok, the bakery and pizzeria were good and reasonably priced, but
the bar was a bit more pricey. We found the old town of Biot which is
situated a few miles away from the campsite to be like another world,
it was very beautiful and the restaurants excellent. We also discovered
that the location of the campsite was great for visiting many wonderful
places such as Monaco, Cannes, St Tropez and Italy, all within easy
driving distances. We also found some lovely sandy beaches about a
twenty min drive from the camp near to Cannes.Overall our holiday was
very expensive as we found prices in this part of France to be very
high. Regardless of all the bad points our holiday was wonderful, we
enjoyed ourselves a great deal and the people were very nice. We would
definanantly to go there again.
