... wildebeest as you could possibly ever wish to see later we had all cheered up immensely.
It was starting to get really dark and it had started to rain (and I don’t mean a light shower), so we headed for the first of our 5 nights bush camping. I had syked myself up for a bush camp, but when we arrived and I was ushered to a tree-house, with no sides, no netting and no lighting I did have an ...
... the animals were freely roaming outside the tent but hopefully we will get use to it!
The morning and evening game drives were fantastic and the number and variety of animals we saw far exceeded our expectation. By the end of our stay in the Masai Mara we have already seen 4 of the big 5, with only the leopard remaining, as well as a large number of zebras, giraffes, hyenas, wildebeests, gazelles, monkeys and wart hogs. Our luck was definitely in ...

Shortly after our return, we met for cocktails in the lobby and I ran a slideshow of 250+ photos from the trip which all enjoyed. It was amazing to think of how much we have done and seen in 10 days.
Dinner buffet was yummy, but no white chocolate to be found. ;-(
Surprise! Hippos are extremely noisy! Our tent is located right next to the hippo docking station on the Mara River. I mean right next to it. We went to the ...

Back to the camp, we prepare for the supper, just commenting the day with the other fellows. Supper is again very good, and after that, we spend some time playing cards. We are very tired, but the night is going to be not as quiet as we would like to.
We can hear the cattle from the masai village, and lots of dogs barking all night long. Don't know what happened, we'll ask tomorrow.
... and small animal species. Everything from elephants, chitas and many others. I am intrigued with the "big sky" savannahs that seem to go on forever. There will many kilometers with short brown grass that goes on as far as the eye can see. Every so often there will be an acacia tree to liven things up a bit. This is the "typical" African scene. The sunset last night was a spectacular show with a red fireball surrounded by ...

They make great grunts and blow air up through their nostrils, and the males will open their jaws 180 degrees if they feel threatened. While scouring the trees for chui, I spotted a troop of baboons, so we drove over to another bend in the river to see them. This troop was gathered along the rivers edge feeding, grooming and fighting, and we had a nice time watching ...
Masai Mara, Kenya honeymooners... to live out of for the next 6 weeks. We were then split into groups of 7 and piled into 4wd safari vans to head off to the Masai Mara for two nights. Shortly after leaving one of the vans broke down. Their driver commandeered another truck from his mate that only had two girls in it and was heading the same way. The roads out of Nairobi were pretty quiet and soon we found ourselves at the rim of the Great Rift Valley and as we found would be the norm ...
Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya shieldsontourHello Everyone! Sorry it has taken me so long to write. I have had some great experiences since the last post! I am currently on the island of Lamu off the northern coast of Kenya (more on this soon). However, in this post I am going to take an opportunity to fill in where I last left off: After spending a couple of days with my cousin Tom in Nairobi, I arranged for a three day, two night safari to one of the wonders of the world... the amazing Masai Mara. Hundreds of thousands ...
Masai Mara, Kenya photonomad... coming upon a stopped vehicle is, "Which way are they looking?". It limits your chances of missing something scanning the wrong horizon.] Everyone was looking left. We looked left. We searched the horizon. We glared and got out the binoculars. Finally we asked, "Er, these lions, uh, can you point out a landmark to place them?". Despairingly, the first van driver pointed at a small bush about 2m**** in front of us with a lion and two lionesses, well disguised as termite mounds ...
Masai Mara, Kenya hdh...
