We arrived in Venice last night after having to drag ourselves out of Levanto. The directions on the internet were wrong, and we somehow found the place we were staying thanks to an old man on the bus who literally walked us to where we needed to go. The place we spent last night was named Jolly campground, and it reminded me of being in a trailer park at the river. It was cheap and had running water and we met some cool people our age from Kansas and Austrailia so it wasnt bad. Spending the ...
Venice, Italy caldrichI am sitting on the train right now heading back to Rome after spending the weekend in Venice. Oh Venice, you are beautiful, but full of way too many tourists! Seriously 90% of the people were there visiting- you can barely even pick out the locals. When I was there before I don't remember it being so packed with people. Before I get into some of the details of our weekend I have to write about where we stayed. We stayed at the Camping Jolly Hostel...what a name, huh? Some of our friends had ...

Venice, Veneto, Italy parkersistersBuena Sera from Florence, We arrived a couple of days ago, and at first we couldnt find a hostel. We cut our trip short in Rome because we saw what we wanted, and decided to move on. So, on short notice we cancelled our hostel stay in rome, and had to leave for Florence. We couldnt find a hostel online for the same night, so we had to just show up. Everything was full (or so they said), so we tried the information centre, and no luck! So we called the affiliated camp of the place we stayed in...
Florence, Italy parkersisters I am definitely intrigued with Venezia. I am afraid I am not in love
with it though - I think it would be as difficult as falling in love
with an old person who has charm and wisdom but no looks nor youth to
enjoy life.
The city is old, but it us unexpectedly not taken care of, it seems.
According to my book, most castles are actually closed, and almost none
get renovated. It is due to local law that makes it possible to
renovate only if the landlord keeps the...
When I arrived in Venice, I had two goals. One, to find my friends Chris and Matt.. and two, to try not to get lost. The first happened by chance/luck/fate and only happened because I decided that the second goal wasnt any fun. Turns out, when you travel, plans change. I had a vague idea, from an earlier email that chris and matt would be coming to venice by ferry from croatia.. so I figured id go to Venice early, find the ferry building, find out what times the boats from croatia came in and...
Venice, Italy rachelmachelAs you can tell from the title of this entry, we have had our first experience with the Italian healthcare system. No worries though, Bre just had a minor sprained ankle but the people at our campground here in Venice wanted her to go to the hospital, so that is where we spent most of the night last night. We waited for 4 hours before they saw her and then around 2 and half more for them to give her some Tylenol with codeine and an ACE bandage. It was a great time! But otherwise, all is well....

... of this one were Michelangelo’s “David” (of David and Goliath fame) and a series of unfinished works (also Michelangelo) that really gave some insight into his process. Next came the “Renaissance Walk” - about a two hour stroll from one end of the old city to the other, including stops at the enormous and beautiful “Duomo” (the cathedral nicknamed for its imposing dome), the Campanille -bell tower - (where we did NOT climb the ...
Venice, Veneto, Italy sistersitaly... struck Michele about the Venice bridge, well maybe three. First, it was not beautiful. She wonders where the money went. Second, it is not elaborate. She wonders where the money went. And, finally, this is the main bridge across the Grand Canal for newly-arrived tourist and, yet, there is no way to get a rolling suitcase over this bridge without hitting every single step. Could they not create a smooth ...
Venice to Florence, Veneto, Italy sistersitaly... endowed a museum of modern art, which seems especially radical in Venice, with its nearly universal focus on the Renaissance.
After dinner and a rest, we finished our day with a night at the Opera! We saw “The Barber of Seville” a great, silly romp of an opera - and to add to the fun, it was performed inside one of the old Venetian palaces, with each act taking place in a different room. (The small audience followed the players and the Piano Quartet from room to room.)
