25 Jan (Lunar New Year eve) Sunday - Shahi Guesthouse Jodpur Old City We made some instant porridge with some baked caschew nuts to eat early at 7am as we want to set off at 8am. (we carry a multi boiler like a big opening hot water boiler which we had carry with us for many trips. It was a little cubersome but we can make hot water whenever there is electricity and some instant noodles or porridge for a quick meal or when we are sick from local food or really sick and need some plain stuff)....
Osian, Rajasthan, India cresc... we were staying in the old city so there are loads of little alleyways taking you in the wrong direction, after asking many locals to so us the way we realised we had gone the complete wrong direction and ended up walking round most of the fort walls searching for the entrance.

Eventually we arrived and paid 250 rupees each entry fee which included an audio guide, the audio guide was brilliant, it gave us loads of information and told us loads of ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India chrisandem... restaurants are serviced by men. This experience also showed me that despite the language barrier I was able to make strong connections and learn more about the culture of these women and their village.

After spending a sweat soaked, urinating outside, sunburned day in the Thar desert, on the back of a Camel with a broken saddle, this is the best days in India I've had since my trip began. I will always hold this experience dear to my heart!!!

Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India tonicastells... for Rajhastan - it was he who founded the trust that runs the fort. I could, and would, go on for ages, but Kate and I have promised ourselves a treat. Since we may be able to handle food for the first time, we're taking a tuk-tuk out to the palace - half of which is still occupied by the royal family, half of which is a modern, up-scale hotel, which apparently serves up a mean pasta. With any luck, we'll be recovered within hours.
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India hammitt... we realised how good this was!!!) and we had a bit of personal space.

We wanted to visited Jodhpur's fort this afternoon but with the bus arriving 2 hours after we were told it would (bloody dodgy travel agents) and only 2 hours before it closed it quickly become apparent this was impossible.

Still not to worry we soon turned our thoughts to bedding down for the night. This was easier said then done....this time the cost wasn't the problem....far from it ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India dockerills... also (I guess Maria is not the only one with medical problems here). I push my way in and get service as fast as I can. The man looks at the long list, much longer than all the others, "sir, it will be 30 minutes-I come to your room"-"No sir, I will wait here"--"I sorry, will take longer, you go to room". Actually this did happen in a similar fashion last night so I trusted him. 30 minutes later I was back down there and it was nearly filled--with ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India markkacik... another person's private house with some rented rooms. Our bed was like Princess and the Pea. It was like getting on a horse at night!! The owner said to us, smiling "we have given you a very private room...as you are on honeymoon!" and we thought this was really thoughtful until we saw where it was! A room on the roof with a thousand workman building an extension to the main house! The builders were lovely though. They all stopped to watch us, just to make ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India mrsdpI love how places become associated with simple one-line phrases that cut through the **** and tell you how it really is, like for instance: "Jodhpur: The Blue City". The first impression of Jodphur is anything but- It is a dusty, red sandstone monolith. It is something of a betrayal, a fraud; up there with: "South Australia: The Excitement State!" or; "Western Australia: Home of the America's Cup" or; "New York: The Big Apple!" (what apple? where?). But the 'blue' is there ...
