... d gone a few feet further I'd have been in the drink!

Hotel was cheap because it had no windows maybe, just screened in orifices that admitted no bugs but plenty of noise.

Enjoyed a great foccacia bread at the biggest hotel in town, right on the river - the Italians that formerly had El Vago now work there. Not too pricey either.

Had breakfast at the Mexican - great to have chorizo again. Had a good chat about Mexico and its beer - we're in ...

Small village on the main road but Tucan Hotel set back. Not cheap and only 2 showers/toilets shared between up to 4 people in treehouse, 4 in hammocks, multiple others camping plus 12 people in dorms when fully occupied. Female shower/toilet always full of men as bigger - thankfully came when quiet.

Cocked up the directions to the falls, Cascadas Verde & didn't turn left before hardware store. Ended up crossing the river on a tree trunk bridge & ...

Cloudbusting, and Running Up That Hill..

... the price of an average bottle of beer had dropped in the local supermarket to a reasonable $2 for a litre, we still couldnītreally afford to eat out and the National parks were getting more expensive. We were stunned for $17 a head to enter the Monteverde Cloudforest that day and wandered around for 3 hours. The only interesting thing we noticed that day were the butterflies and the freaking annoying tourists who again sought fit to shout as loudly as they possibly could, just ...

San Isidro-- Driving the Moutain of Death

After dropping Bev off at the airport we headed straight out of town. Of course this took us a good hour due to traffic and the inability to get proper directions! The map I we had purchased at a hotel the day when we came into the country was supposedly up-to-date, but so far I had counted around 10 mistakes. The San Jose portion was no different. By the time we got out of the city it was around 3 PM so we only had a few hours of daylight left and we still had to go ...

Monteverde - cloud forest and then some!

... at this level, so there is a ridiculous amount of plant life. Plants are growing all the way up trees because they can simply get moisture from the clouds and almost constant light rain that falls.
It was amazing to be walking around all day in the mist, the rain and the forest, its something I will never forget from the trip and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been..

Land of the Resplendent Quetzal

... about two minutes from our hotel.

First he showed us an Emerald Toucanet nest where we were able to see this beautiful bird up close feeding on berries and insects. Then he spotted it, a juvenile Quetzal high up in an avocado tree a few yards down the road. The plumage of this amazing bird has made it considered the most beautiful in the world. It has a green body that shows iridescence from green-gold to blue-violet and a red breast. Breeding ...

Better out than in...

... to the humidity nothing dries, so we were stuck with wet clothes in a wet room. We also discovered a scorpian on the wall which was a bit of a shock. The owner of the hostel rescued us in the style of Steve Urwin
when he simply peeled it off the wall with his fingers holding itīs tail. He said it was perfectly safe if you just grab it by the stinger, and they donīt really hurt that much, just like a bee sting. Still, no thanks eh?

... are filled with colourful native birds and other animals! They look great! - Sleeping at the Kiosko o For fun, a few of us will hike up to the Kiosko (an observation deck up in the forest on the property) and spend the night. So far, Dolly, Annie and I are doing it but we're opening it up to others that are interested. Very excited for next Monday night! So, I think that's about it! I guess I'm a pretty busy lady!

Dominical

... some serious breast stroke, but no dice, just gettin sucked out towards some 10 foot waves and china. Ya it sucked really bad, God was good to me though and I managed to ride some whitewater in to where I could touch. However the surfer was not as lucky, nobody saw him again. Na he was fine too, I just told him to chill out and head north abit and catch some whitewater. We had a nice group hug on the beach. So moral of the story. I kie the way one local phrased it, " the ...
