Bahia de huatulco, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico demakkiWe spent a few days in Zipolite getting some beach time following a couple weeks inland. The town/beach has a laid back hippie vibe that compliments the area very nicely. We stayed at a dumpy hotel but it was right on the beach so no worries. The hotel also had an entertaining, eccentric California owner who loved telling us about his favorite thing -- himself. We also took a day trip to Puerto Escondido to check out the 'Mexican Pipeline'.
Zipolite, Mexico gringowithdrawl... that I can't even walk anymore. We run around trying to find a bathroom and I can only sit down as no further step can be risked. Finally I make it and for the rest of the day I have to listen to Jason's joke of me having to run to the bathroom for the excitement of turtles. I don't know what to say, it is true! We saw so many different types of turtles that I didn't even knew existed. We both had a wonderful time. For the last evening we had some drinks at another ...
San Agustinillo, Pacific Coast, Mexico lenitasworld... but enthusiastic too. It was a joy to spend 5 hours with this guy learning about not only the birds, but the flora, the fauna, the animals, the land and observing the different environments including the lagoon (a/k/a swamp), the wet and dry mangrove area, the island and the abutting forest. I loved it all. In total I saw 50 different kinds of birds, including parrots and even a pigmy owl. Very, very cool. When we approached the area on the ...
Mazunte, Mexico roamingjodi... 1.50, I got two two chicken and onion tacos with tortillas made just for me, and two helpings of rice and beans. Amazingly delicious and very affordable. Kind of on a whim, we decided to take a colectivo to a small beach town in between Pochutla and Puerto Escondido. A colectivo is a pickup truck that has a little canopy in the back with wooden benches. People pile into them to get to various places quickly and cheaply. You ride with all ...
Mazunte, Mexico shef11308... little picky, but to us, denial of knowledge of the location of local places of interest is not the best way to sell your services as a taxi driver. Eventually, Andrew and Loreen saw a bus with Puerto Escondido written on the front, so hailed it in the middle of the street and jumped on. And then there were two. We wandered a little bit and found a bus station, which was only for longer distance buses. We got some directions and headed back along the road, found ...
Puerto Ángel, Mexico jacobandkirsty... which is surrounded by about 20 army men with guns and 2 vans - not sure why but thought best to keep going! We got the colectivo truck to Potchula and put Nina on her bus, however there were no seats on any of the buses for us, so we had to book for the next day and got the colectivo back to Zipolite, two villages down from Muzunte. We manage to get ourselves a bargain room on the beach front and head for the sea. For the first time there ...
Mazunte, Mexico lizzatwell... beach that we were going too because the coral was sharp and that the waves were strong. So we got there and immediately ignored all the advice and walked into the water, to be fair, we didn't go far but within a few minutes the waves were telling us where to go and by the time we managed to get out a few minutes later we both had various cuts and scrapes . Thought it ...
Puerto Ángel, Mexico freeandeasy... couple of hours. I emailed people and chatted online to keep from feeling too lonely. I enjoy traveling alone but sometimes I really miss talking to people. It seems like most people are traveling in couples. A couple of Mexican teenage girls were chatting online with their webcams, giggling. One of them pointed her camera and told me to wave. I'm sure she was typing "No, that's no lobster, it's a tourist! Look at her skin! JAJAJAJAJAJAJA ...
Puerto Escondido, Mexico kittenbum... After tortillas we got back on a bus and drove overnight to arrive in Puerta Escondido this morning! We went to a hostel called Hostal a la casa which was recommended by Lonely Planet (yes, I can hear you all groaning already but we hadn´t learnt our lesson!) It turns out that since the Lonely Planet was published, the hostel has changed owners and prices in Mexico have gone up so it is no longer possible for the new owner to include breakfast (or a sheet changing service for ...
