Biking Beechworth

... really lovely route which took us through a wattle garden; Erin and I counted at least four different varieties! We also found a stone laid labyrinth and Aboriginal creation rock garden which explained the lifestyle of the local people before Europeans moved in.

Dinner that night was BBQ with noodle salad and potatoes organised by my uncle, and BBQed by Erin. The footy finals were de rigeur on TV of course, but after helping with the dishes I crashed on our lilo pretty early!

... police occured.

We then spent a few hours at Beechworth, an historic little town which still has an operating telegraph station. We went on a scenic drive along the gorge (which was quite narrow with our big bus!)

After we headed down to the town of Bright and then into Mount Beauty, stopping at the overlooks of the town.

Snow and puppy dogs

... fight. We all ganged up on Renee which was fun. We than went back down the mountain. Still the visibility was ****, but you take the good with the bad & at least we can say that we had snow fall on us.

We got back to the cabin around 3:30ish & stoked up the fire to prepare for a night of NCIS & master chef watching. Kath & Nae went & returned our snow boots while I & Belinda chilled.

It was a great day, something none of us who will never forget.

BRIGHT

... enjoyed it though. On the way back down we stopped at Lake Cataini, a man made lake designed to service the Mt Buffalo ski fields. There is also a camping ground here and is open to caravans as well. Something for the memory bank (which doesn't work too well these days)!. It was lovely and peaceful here and we did the Lakeside walk before heading for home. I really feel as though I am running out of adjectives to describe this whole area. Bright is ...

Mt Buffalo

... up to The Horn which is a rocky peak (standing at 1723m - 500m shorter than Mt Kosciuszko) that offered 360 degree views of the Australian Alps and after a quick twelve minute walk it was breathtaking. Never before have we stood alone and witnessed a more spectacular view. If you are ever in Victoria you must visit Mt Buffalo and visit The Horn. Well, that's it for this blog, next stop Milawa, home of the Brown Brothers winery. Bye for now.

Not such an easy climb

... but by the time we got abck to the top of the lift, adn looked back at the daunting hill to head down, we really wished for some skis, or a bike or some other way of getting down. We found the strength to make it back to town, were a blues festival was happening. Unfortunately it was a bit out of our budget, and we were compeltely exhausted. We got back to the car around 8 pm, read for a bit, and were out cold before 9 pm. What a great day!
