A Dusk Dip in a Bottomless Lake

DIVE ACROSS AMERICA
I admit it--I'm overstimulated. It takes a lot to keep my interest--so just seeing America on the surface during my cross country drive to Boston is not enough. I want to see the USA underwater too--the sinkholes, lakes, quarries and other non-ocean waterways that dot the American landscape. So in addition to my mountain bike, camping gear, cameras and and all the other stuff I packed into my Xterra for my road trip east to begin a year-long journalism fellowship at Har...

Day 74 - Unidentified Crawling Object

As we were early to bed because of the UFO's (of the insect variety) and we hadn't slept well the previous night from being in a Wal-Mart car park, we slept really well last night and were awake early. Neil had washed Chip before 8 am and we were both out walking just after 8.00 on the trail from the campground that takes you through 1000 year old lava flow. The lava came not from a volcano, but from lava vents. All kinds of wildlife lives out there, particularly rattlesnakes, scorpions and t...

Roswell and Carlsbad

While visiting Roswell and Carlsbad, I had not internet access. I am headed back home now and found a hot spot along the way. I saved my musings on the computer so I could upload when I got a chance. It's been a great trip. I never thought about New Mexico having being so diverse with cool mountains and hot desert within a few short minutes drive from one another. I didn't see much of the Northern areas because it isn't really warm enough yet to enjoy it on a motorcycle. A good summer or earl...

'Carlsbad Caverns'

After a pretty uneventful drive through Texas, we visited one of the most incredible places you will ever see. We've heard much about the caverns in Carlsbad and it was even more impressive than we thought.(at first I thought Kelly said we were going to the 'Carlsbad Taverns' and I was pretty excited) But when I learned it was actually the Caverns and this was the place where they filmed the ...

... tiny green creatures on just about everything. I found a few more of these "ships" but it looked as if they belonged to these tiny green creatures, and were actually called "UFO's", but I don't know what that stands for. I found a UFO museum and research center, but it had closed for the day. I will stay tonight in hopes of solving this mystery in the morning.

That is the pic that got me in this mess!!!!!

Heading North - Day 1

... Public School where we hoped to catch up with Rick Cogdill, Pricipal and Rod's closest childhood friend. We had a nice visit with Rick and then headed Northwest on NM 42 through Cedarvale and Willard to US 60 where we headed West to Mountainair. I had thought we might ride from Roswell to Willard and get fuel, but it's a good thing we didn't do that, as the only fuel stop in Willard appeared as though it had gone out of business. The fuel price signs at ...
