Great little campsite. Stayed there in May 09, camp site staff we encountered were all young students who were really nice. There was a little shop that sold snacks and various items too which was useful if a little expensive. We got there around sunset so we didn't get a chance to fully appreciate the scale of the trees until morning, when we got out of our tent as were nearly bowled over at what we saw.

Great for families and solo/small group travellers either passing through or wanting to stay n explore the area. Nearby Pfeiffer Beach is a gem too, if you can find it. Bring money for the carpark, a few bucks should suffice

Monday I headed North up the coast from LA. Took on the hairpins on CA-1, those were challenging. Found out after that rigs over 30ft are discouraged from that road. Got to Big Sur and set up camp. No phone or Internet, nice! The Lees were scheduled to connect for a few nights as they were on the Tour de Kendrick, San Diego to Santa Rosa. Could not …

For those of you who don't know anything about the Big Sur it is probably the most famous part of Highway One in california because it is beautiful and dramatic drive which cuddles the cliffs - romantic and hair raising at the same time. We opted out of visiting Hearst Castle - one of the regions most famous destinations as I've actually been …

$1 pancakes - the price is right

This morning we woke up early, got our $1 PANCAKES! (for the record, I ate 3, Curtis plowed 5 into his gullet, and a bagel .. he basically rolled out of the hostel). Got onto the freeway, and I mean literally a freeway. It’s absolute insanity on those 5 lane monsters. And now I finally understand why they call it a ‘freeway’ - …

    Dash to Big Sur

From here it was a pretty high speed dash to get to Big Sur in time to find our campground before night fall, the last thing we wanted to be doing was driving on those windy cliff-side roads in the dark. We'd probably have found a watery grave before the signs for the campsite.

Anyhow, we got to Big Sur Campground and Cabins near Pfeiffer …
