Day 23-25: Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

We have entered what I like to call "the shin". This national park is gigantic. The land was originally owned by over 49 private land owners, now spread with hiking trails, parks and Skyline Drive with about 50 beautiful overlooks into the Appalachian Mountains. The area changes a bit demographically as in, the people are country…talk a …

Chris suggested we could stay another day while I rest but I was keen to keep to schedule and was feeling a little better after throwing up. So we soldiered on. Zach got to watch a lot of iPad that day while I slept in the back assisting Chris to navigate when I could. It was a long drive on the interstate system and we heading to Front Royal a …

Down the road to Big Meadows campground

Travel 30 miles down the Skyline Drive Road to Big Meadows campground. It is an older campground than Mathews Arm and not as nice. The campsites are more open and not as large. Hard to find a site to fit a 32 foot Motorhome! The one thing this campground has are showers which we dont use. We settle in and read for the afternoon then walk around the …

On the road again

Our first day on the road. Tori wants to stay on interstates and close to big cities. It is a challenge to my usual driving style. We did manage to get through both Baltimore and Washington DC with only a minor tie-up. Stopped and ate at chain restaurants. Not my usual style but this is Tori's trip. Our next destination is Arlington, Texas. Tori has a friend there.

This site is not as nice as Mathews Arm just up the road. Sites not as private and smaller and not as nice. Would recommend staying at Mathews Arm if you are deciding!

A well kept campground with full time mowing crews AKA Rabbits. Also great walk in camp sites to a real camping experience.

This park was well-used and tired. We had to try two sites to get something level enough so we could even camp. Quiet and peaceful and several short hikes nearby, by car. I'd stay there again, just because the drive through the park is so beautiful.
