This site is not as nice as Mathews Arm just up the road. Sites not as private and smaller and not as nice. Would recommend staying at Mathews Arm if you are deciding!

A well kept campground with full time mowing crews AKA Rabbits. Also great walk in camp sites to a real camping experience.

This park was well-used and tired. We had to try two sites to get something level enough so we could even camp. Quiet and peaceful and several short hikes nearby, by car. I'd stay there again, just because the drive through the park is so beautiful.

We have entered what I like to call "the shin". This national park is gigantic. The land was originally owned by over 49 private land owners, now spread with hiking trails, parks and Skyline Drive with about 50 beautiful overlooks into the Appalachian Mountains. The area changes a bit demographically as in, the people are country…talk a …

Chris suggested we could stay another day while I rest but I was keen to keep to schedule and was feeling a little better after throwing up. So we soldiered on. Zach got to watch a lot of iPad that day while I slept in the back assisting Chris to navigate when I could. It was a long drive on the interstate system and we heading to Front Royal a …

... visitor’s center. We were heading back there so he hopped in and told us some of his stories while we drove. He was in his 50s and had been hiking bits of the Appalachian trail for 10 years. He was also a deep sea diver and spent some times swimming around the shipwrecks in Nova Scotia. Overall a really cool guy! He was going to the visitors center to pick up some supplies for the next leg of his hike so we dropped him off and made our way ...

The next morning we knew it was time to get back to nature. The Skyline Drive was right next to us and was calling our names. The Skyline Drive is a 100mile drive through the Virginia Shenandoah National Park. We started at the very north of the drive and wound our way through the beautiful trees and views along the mountaintop. It's really too bad that we came when we did because 1 week ...
