My journey begins Tuesday with a flight from Orange County/John Wayne to Minneapolis. After a short layover, I'm on my way to Amsterdam. A few hours later, I depart Schiphol for Johannesburg where I'll spend the night in preparation for the jump to Gaborone, Botswana the next day.

Yes, there are a lot of Canadiens here. Probably as many from Canada as California. I've heard that up to 40% of the people here are from Canada. Also represented are folks from the northern United States- Alaska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon, Iowa, New York. The list goes on and on, but these are the places that come to mind.

As a group these folks are affectionately known as "Snowbirds". ...
