I pulled in, they checked off my car (and I thankfully didn't get charged any extra for returning a few hours early). ... Grand Canyon and hit up a random festival, while Jonas wanted to go rafting and hike out to a hot spring. Someone had tipped us off about a hot spring in Big Sur, so we seized the opportunity to check something off our list.

However, the hot spring was 10 miles into the woods and it was already getting late in the afternoon. We arrived in Big Sur to make a game plant and start the preparations for our very first proper backcountry hiking trip....
