This was my first backpacking trip, and I honestly didn't prepare as well as I could have. For one thing, I packed WAY too much food (not to mention the fact that the avocados and cheese weren't super necessary for the trip). Anyway, on the first day I headed out with my friend Kareem a bit later that we had planned, and ended up just making it to the first camp before sunset with backpacks that were ridiculously heavy. Haha :) So tired from all the activities of the day, and the exalts bit of shopping we squeezed in that afternoon, we decided to play it safe and close and go back to the Cheesecake Factory again! ... rather than a literal translation). I am just as terrified as the next person, but the subject of my fear has drifted a different direction. I am more afraid of stagnant water than I have ever been of a storm. Storms require something; storms require urgency and novelty, both of which have always deeply aroused my soul in the most uncomfortable, yet exciting of ways.

That being said, I am feeling ready to leave Santa Cruz. I have never ...

... s home in San Jose.

The funny thing was that when I came to the exit for Sequoia I was ahead of schedule. My plan was to do the drive through the park and maybe take a stroll through the Grove of Giants. Nothing worked out. After I entered the park from the south entrance you begin a major uphill climb. As I got closer to the top, the clouds became very dark and soon all the cars were stopped. SNOW! I was just praying ...
