Pleasant site location. convenient on route. Fairly quiet for high season. major disappointment: toilets and wash facilities not to the normal high Swiss standards.

    Grand Tour - Alps

A travel blog entry by mary.braddock. on Jun 23, 2013

Leaving Lake Maggiore at 9.10 am, pausing only to buy warm bread at the local shop, we were soon on our way along the lakeside road, sharing it with what seemed like a thousand Sunday morning cyclists. The view was more stunningly beautiful on leaving it than when we arrived there last week and a pang of sadness entered my being! We were ...

The second train contains a group chatting to each other in their common language of English, on topics ranging from travellers detained on weak grounds (Istanbul and USA) to one guy's experience of living in Kiribati to the German-accented man's opinion on smartphones (likes ...

    Grand Tour - Still hot!

A travel blog entry by mary.braddock. on Jun 14, 2013

After a day of excessive heat yesterday we went to the small restaurant on site for our anniversary dinner, we both settled on Alpine herdsman macaroni, which was for all the world rather like macaroni cheese but with onions, cream and potato added. Very nice until we came to pay and they do not accept debit cards however the very trusting waitress said we could pay the next day with Swiss francs once we had ...

    Grand Tour - Alpine sun

A travel blog entry by mary.braddock. on Jun 13, 2013

We left the lovely town of Morges today and drove around 90 miles to Susten. The journey was amazing as we passed along the motorway with terraces of vines rising to our left and down to our right. Lake Leman stayed with us for much of the journey and we passed Evian of mineral water fame. Superlatives fail me as the views exceed all expectations, we agreed it was a perfect way to spend our ...

... the culprit was. October is not the time to be hunting for flip flops – snow boots yes, summer wear, nope! We had brought the computer with us since our campsite didn’t have internet and stopped off at a coffee shop to use the wifi. We ordered a large hot chocolate and a pecan pie to share; both were very tasty and hit the spot on a cool day. We checked the forecast for the next few days and had two more days of mostly sun coming up! We then ...
