        ... a hundred miles to our next stop, so we could take our time and enjoy the mountain and lake vistas.

        Jim was already at their place on the Pend Oreille River. The water level here, as in so many places, had been extremely high. We could easily see where it had been five or six feet higher in the near past. It's come down enough that they're allowing boats again on the water.
