Eureka, our last stop, looked less than welcoming - even its mother would find it difficult to love- and so we decided not to venture out of the hotel but to eat in. A wise move in some respects as some of the rest of our party were accosted, although not physically, for money the moment they walked out of the door.

We left Grants Pass, Oregon at 7 this morning and as we were looking for a Starbucks in town we came upon the warehouse and show room for fire mountain gems, my all time favorite on line site to buy my beads! Well I got so excited, for who doesn't need beads when you are a jewelry maker! But wait the parking lot is empty, maybe we are just here to early right? Our guide also pointed out sink holes, fault lines and silt deposits brought in by floods which have never moved so it was interesting from a geological point of view.

We had seen many bats the night before as we drove up the valley road and while we ate dinner in the dark, greatly appreciating the excellent job they had done in mopping up the mosquitoes. It was delightful to relax outside without that irritating drone and bite.
