Just a bit noisy

The site is in the middle of town, so it was very convenient for walking to all the various destinations. The people were very friendly, and the facilities were clean and adequate. Our vehicle opens at the back so they were very accommodating about finding us the right site. Lots of smaller RV's seemed to be staying there so the unisex bathroom usage was quite busy. I just didn't sleep for the 2 nights that we stayed there because the noise of the traffic seemed to go on for a large part of the night... Powerful engine noise. Don't kow if it was just one particular vehicle going around and round, on that particular night, or if big engines are the general mode of transport, and cruising over the weekend a normal pastime! I don't think that the other RV sites would have been any better noise-wise as they are all in the centre of this gorgeous and historic little town.

Day 13 - Lazy day in socked-in Valdez

Think I mentioned we decided to spend a second night here in Valdez even before we had barely settled in. Today proved to be a bit of a lazy day which is just fine in light of the weather change. We awoke to some rain and not much view of the magnificent mountains we had all around us yesterday. The rain didn't amount to much so we all headed out …

It's 11:30pm on Day 12 and I just walked to the washroom and once again am stunned by how light it is outside.... if it wasn't that there is not a soul around and no voices of people nor many sounds of cars, it could be much earlier. Such is life in the land of the midnight sun. I know this is so but never having experienced it I still find it …

Otters or Seals??

Another day of rain so it was quite difficult to get any enthusiasm to get out of bed. The whole town was covered in cloud so we couldn't see what the place was like. The cloud came and went all day giving us glimpses of different parts at different times. We haven’t been able to see the whole town at once. It got close later this afternoon …

What a dismal night and a dismal day that we woke up to. It had rained quite heavily all night so we were quite happy to leave Seward. We are now in Valdez and it is raining here but it is not so heavy. Jenny has gone for a walk in it, with her raincoat on, so it can't be too bad.

Everyday we think we have seen the best sights that nature …

Valdez to Lake Louise

... make it to Bill and Charlyne's cabin on Lake Louise. We just started driving north with no real set destination and decided we'd see where the weather took us. At first we couldn't see much. As we entered the Chugach area there were several pullovers that the Milepost said to be sure to stop at and take pictures - at most we only saw fog. We did see a few beautiful waterfalls and gorges. As we got to Copper Valley the weather ...
